With Music Treasures Sessions we are starting techno podcast and it cannot go any better then Cristian Varela who did an exclusive mix for us.
Cristian plays a very important role in the history of electronic music in Spain, being an indispensable part in the construction of the national industry of dance music and one of Spain’s pioneer international artists. 
The artist from Madrid writes in first person some of the most significant pages of this evolution, becoming a pioneer in diverse aspects, which today make up the roadmap of this profession.

In the mid-1980s, the Filterheadz made their first musical steps by playing in a pop band. Bert played guitar, Maarten was a drummer. Their role models were bands such as U2, The Police and Simple Minds, and still today these influences are audible in their songs.

After a whole series of pop, rock, metal and R&B projects with rather modest success, they continuously approached the field of electronic dance music through remixes by Roger Sanchez, Masters at Work and David Morales. Therefore, their recent productions are strongly oriented towards the American House scene.

In 1998, they were contracted by the Belgian label Headroom Music. After a few publications under various pseudonyms, they decided to opt for the name "Filterheadz". At that time, Jo Casters' attention was raised and he ordered a number of remixes from them. Their interpretation of "Struggle for Pleasure" (Minimalistix) became a club hit. Inspired by Deep Dish and John Digweed, they advanced to progressive trance and with remixes for Hooj and Platypus scored more club hits.

When the Filterheadz were contacted by Intec Records, they produced a Latin Techno track "Sunshine", which was to be played on Ibiza as a summer song. More remix work for Green Velvet, Bedrock, Eddie Amador, Tiësto and Oliver Lieb followed.

After producing the best-selling techno record of the year, they began to search musical diversity again and published their first mixed genre CD "Tribalicious". The first album is in progress and will be a mixture of Electronic Music and Independent.

It’s all about the music. New York stalwart and beloved DJ, Boris, lives by that statement each and every day. He is a man wearing many hats; one as a touring DJ, another as a producer dynamo and lastly as a label boss of Transmit Recordings. A career forged over decades of long nights in the Big Apple’s most revered rooms. From the infamous Roxy to Crobar to the once dominating Pacha NY on 46th Street, Boris maintained a following so devout, so loyal they were truly ‘Believers’. Pioneering a music movement in a city filled with those who have so little time to pay attention, Boris has been a production powerhouse when not performing for the masses. He’s been tapped by industry leaders such as Carl Cox for his label Intec, Dubfire for his label Sci-Tec, Paco Osuna and his Mindshake records, amongst countless others.

His ability behind the decks and in the studio has not only made him a New York favorite, but his music has taken him places all around the world ranging from the shores of Playa Del Carmen to the magical White Isle known as Ibiza. Known to many as the ‘DJ’s DJ’, Boris has had the career most DJs can only wish to have. The trends, they may change but the New York native has stayed true to his drum driven sounds and created his own niche in the wide and vast world of electronic music. Taking bits and pieces from every part of the globe he visits, Boris always maintains a piece of home in his music. 

Even though his career spans nearly three decades, the journeyman DJ has yet to falter. We currently find him playing leading to destinations across the globe and his music is in high demand with forthcoming releases many sought after labels, Boris is constantly on the tips of the younger generation’s tongue. Why? Because talent, like wine, gets better with age.

Bruno Federico Andrada Musical Creator par Excellence, Imparts Emotions through an Essentially Progressive sound forming sound waves that can envelop your mind and take you to the next level. Bruno follows his own musical line as a Electronic Music's Producer and also as a DJ, in which some titles such as "A Hidden Part Of you" [The Soundgarden] and His Latest EP with Fernando Ferreyra on the label "Amulanga" called "LOST FOREST" also going through other record labels such as Nube Music, Fluglab, Dreamers. You can listen to Bruno on his monthly radio show called "Groove Culture" on FRISKYRadio. Radio station of global size, celebrating its first year in 2023 with more than 50,000 listeners since the beginning. YouTube is another of the pillars where you can find videos and DJ sets that have been played live.

As Meanwhile Horizons readies itself for an 18th impressive release, Matter and Eric Lune join forces for an Australian triple-tracker on “Starlight / Memory Burn / EyeAndYou”.

Both shining lights within the progressive fraternity, Melbourne-based Matter and Eric Lune are individually responsible for a plethora of high-profile releases on such leading imprints as Balance Music, Vapour Recordings and Proton Music. Now the co-founder of the Meanwhile brand joins forces with a label debutant as Meanwhile Horizons brings together Matter and Eric Lune for their collaborative debut.

Replete with trademark progressive house tropes, “Starlight” opens proceedings with a typically smooth and luscious sonic landscape. A heavy beat and shimmering percussive backdrop combine with rippling arpeggio to pave the way for a lead motif that takes centre stage. Full of warm feelgood overtones, subtle vocal textures build as layers of new melody and pitched synth effects create an elegant and blissful wall of sound.

“Memory Burn” offers a slightly faster-paced touch with its kick / snare combination and triplet hi-hat shuffle. A muted arpeggio soon enters the fray as its open filter cadence sits perfectly within the rhythmic backdrop. Adding dancefloor flavour, a smooth bassline sequence creates a stunning emotive atmosphere while a floating synth lead hits its zenith at the mid-point before dropping away to deliver a stunning new grooved bassline. Combining effortlessly in the second half, rhythm, melody and bass sizzle and sparkle in majestic fashion.

The final track finds a chunky rhythmic framework laying the foundation for a huge bassline groove to propel “EyeAndYou” into Ibiza dancefloor territory. Syncopated synth riffs sparkle while vocal flourishes and glassy keys create counterpoint melody aplenty as they pan across the stereo spectrum. The result is a delicate and effortless affair that resonates with a Way Out West / Jody Wisternoff air.
