MN STUDIO MIX

Basic Rhythm - MN STUDIO MIX

Musique Nocturne is a new label from @BasicRhythm with the sole aim of bringing you forward thinking, dance floor Drum & Bass. The first release is a pair of tearing amen driven steppers by Basic Rhythm that will tear up any dance floor.

The lead track, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, opens with lush orchestral strings and a charging amen break before launching into a full on sub bass, amen switch up, punctuated with staccato string plucks. A Midsummer Night’s Dream is both dark and light, serious and playful. This one is guaranteed to devastate dance floors.

The second track, Shape Without Form, opens with hypnotic pads and a two step drum pattern, before breaking down into the first drop with a growling sub bass and two step push and pull. The track evolves into a rolling conga line and amen tear out on the second drop. This one is a weighty dance floor roller for the heads.

A Midsummer Night's Dream

A Midsummer Night's Dream (MN001)

Named after Alfred Jarry’s satirical parodic creation, Ubu Roi, who feels as relevant today as he was in fin de siècle France, King Ubu opens with propulsive strings gradually building the drums and harmonies, then introducing the bass line before switching into a straight beats and bass drop. Another dance floor ready track in this run of singles from @BasicRhythm.

Mind Killer pays homage to the Ram Trilogy, Ed Rush & Optical era of the late 90s, early 2000s D&B, with an updated approach to the drums, while also drawing from Musique Concrete and a vocal nod to the inimitable Coil. Mind Killer doesn’t wait around but aims straight for the dance floor with propulsive drums bolstered by the fuzzy momentum of the bass.

King Ubu

@BasicRhythm returns with a rolling Jungle track that nods to the Total Science productions of the late 90s, early 2000s, with a lively track primed for the dance floor. Full of bouncing Hardcore stabs and a huge, fuzzy sub bass, this isn’t merely an exercise in nostalgia but an updated contemporary roller for the modern Hardcore Junglist!

The Glass Mountain

Basic Rhythm - The Glass Mountain (MN005)

Metalzoic takes its name from the 2000ad comic strip, the artwork is taken from the Futurist movement, whilst the music itself is made for the dance floor, with a metallic pinging bass-line and bouncy drums littered with modular zaps and scatty percussion.

Drop Zone maintains the dance floor agenda, but with a leaner, more minimal approach. Clipped drums and airy pads drop straight into a croaking, stabby bass-line that moves forward with a militant step.

Metalzoic

Basic Rhythm - Metalzoic (MN006)

After the recent split EP with Sully, @BasicRhythm returns with a behemoth of a track designed to smash up the dance floor! Memories of the Future draws on Drum & Bass signifiers of the late 90s, when the culture was all about the future and looking forward to what new musical developments were ahead, and puts a contemporary spin on things. This is not an exercise in nostalgia for a specific sound, this is modern Drum & Bass strictly for the heads! A guaranteed rewind!

Basic Rhythm - Memories of the Future (MN007)

@BasicRhythm returns with the heat! Opening the single is Midnight, a bubbling roller reminiscent of late 90s Full Cycle / DJ Die. This one is aimed straight at the darkest corners of the dance floor with its noire jazz vibe. This is followed by Fire. Starting with a classic vocal sample, into a rolling bass wobble before the drums drop in and the place erupts. This is a Rhythm Killer! It’s time to dust off your dancing shoes and head to the dance!

Midnight / Fire

Following on from the previous single, Midnight / Fire, @BasicRhythm returns with The Gorgon and The End. Named after the three sisters of Greek mythology, The Gorgon is a tongue in cheek stepper. Opening with lilting drums and a discordant intro before it drops into sparse, but heavyweight drums and distorted sub bass. The End is a tribute to many nights spent in Holborn at the Renegade Hardware or RAM nights at The End Club, hearing dubplate after dubplate getting caned on their legendary sound system. This one is all about the switch up!
