Nagoya-based multi-instrumentalist and rising DJ Hiroyuki Kato returns to the ever-consistent Flexi Cuts with Life 今 (FLEX 031), a record that perfectly distills the artist’s layered approach to sound and the label’s instinct for unearthing voices that carry both groove and depth.
Having built a relationship with the label over the past two years—already signing an EP and a single—Kato now delivers a project that feels like a culmination of that dialogue: five tracks on wax, complemented by an additional cut exclusive to the digital edition.

True to its title, Life 今 exudes immediacy and presence. Kato draws on his background as a polyrhythmic player, folding live instrumentation into supple house frameworks, always with a subtle melodic sensibility.
The vinyl selections range from the quietly propulsive to the rhythmically expansive, each tune infused with that warm, unhurried Flexi aura. Basslines strut with understated confidence, chords shimmer with daylight energy, and the arrangements move with a natural, unforced flow.

Something very special here from Miles Away Records. ‘Let Me Down Easy: Echoes From Cheri Records’ is the story of how a tiny label from New Jersey changed the course of music history not once but twice. Cheri Records was established in 1974 in New Jersey and run by Boo Frazier. Cheri’s output was limited, producing a catalogue of just eleven releases between the years 1974 and 1982. On the face of it, this appears to be insubstantial output. However, if you dig a little deeper, the quality released on Cheri Records reveals an exceptional legacy of groundbreaking music.
A dark horse in the world of record labels, a true unsung legend that would go on to alter the course of musical history and intersect with a remarkable array of talented artists, bands and DJs. From Rare Pleasure, Sandy Barber, Julius Brockington, Boo Frazier, Patrick Adams, Tom Moulton, Larry Levan and MF Doom - Cheri Records has directly impacted their artistry in significant ways. Cheri’s influence even extends into the present, with DJ icons like David Morales, Dave Lee, Danny Krivit, and Colin Curtis continuing to champion its contributions.
This compilation brings together the most compelling tracks from the Cheri catalogue, shedding light on the label’s extraordinary story and underscoring the idea that music, no matter how unassuming its origins, can transcend boundaries and reshape, influence and inform music to come for future generations. Here you'll find some of the finest soul and gospel music from artists such as Rare Pleasure, The Family Tree, Julius Brockington, Roslyn & Charles, Hyla Parker and Brooklyn People. This collection also represents the start of a new series here on Miles Away, a series that will delve into the labels and studios that were responsible for leaving a lasting imprint on the musical world. The series is called this Echoes From, and this compilation will be the first of many. We’re thrilled (and a little emotional) to celebrate 10 years of MM Discos. For the occasion, we’ve put together a selection of over 30 tracks from a wide range of artists — some who’ve been with us since the very beginning, others who’ve shaped our sound, many we’ve long admired, and a few who are definitely going to make a lot of noise in the near future.
Talking about MM Discos inevitably takes us back to Erkstrasse 19 — the place where it all started to take shape. Our base camp, where those endless afterhour sessions took place, spinning records for hours on end, playing whatever the hell we felt like. Out of that chaos, the MM Discos identity was born. Herr. Gross, wherever you are, sorry for all the noise :P.
If there’s one word that defines everything we’ve done, it’s music. We’ve always run away from trends and genres to craft our own soundtrack — one where disco, house, techno, breaks, pop, dub, electro, african rhythms, synth and rock all coexist freely. Basically, whatever moved us at the time.
That’s always been the MM Discos way. Balearic? Maybe. But really, it’s more about freedom — no rules, no labels, just pure musical instinct. Over the years, we’ve released what we truly believe deserves to be heard, no matter the style, no matter the hype.
Staying true to that spirit, this anniversary release comes in three volumes — a proper “sonic tutti-frutti” that you simply won’t be able to escape.
In this first volume, we move through a spectrum of sounds — from laid-back mid-tempo grooves to more upbeat, house-driven rhythms infused with that unmistakable Balearic touch.

After a feature on last year’s VA Family Affair comp, Tokyo-based producer Yuu Udagawa drops her first solo EP on Razor-N-Tape. 
 
With releases on Freerange and Compost under her belt, Yuu has been developing a subtle and moody deep house sound that she displays across the three original songs of the ‘Urban Physicality EP’. Each track vibrates with dark chordal textures, pulsating drums and chopped vocal samples, beautifully layered to develop and slowly build. To round out the record, Tokyo producer Takuya Matsumoto turns in a throbbing late-nite remix of the EP’s title track, with a tougher drum profile, cavernous bass, and masterful sound design
