Black Power Ambience was made during a time of great stress for us as Black people. This was around the time of Korey Gaines, Sandra Bland, Philando Castile, Mike Brown, Tamir Rice, Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner and countless others. The Eric Garner one hit especially hard for me, having gone to school in that area. Eric was someone I had always seen around the way and on the day he was killed I had just arrived back home. I walked past the scene and saw the lights and just figured it was the usual, I didn't know what happened until I got to my friends house up the block. All of this death broadcasted on the internet was a constant stream of trauma and it became heavy fast. It's nothing new to me, the idea that my life could end violently has always been in my mind. I wonder what it's like to not think like that?

So during all this my good friend Dave asked me to perform at one of his shows. At the time I was only rapping so I had to make something that would fit the bill.

This is how Black Power Ambience was born. My feelings are captured in it, and the vocal samples from my ancestors serve as a connection to the things that matter. I hope you enjoy it, I know I still do to this day. It gave me relief and I am thankful to the field for giving me the chance to channel this energy this way. Enjoy

Anderson is a composer, a violinist, a vocalist. She is also a filmmaker, a pioneering creator of virtual reality art, and above all, a storyteller.

By combining traditional and experimental influences in electro-acoustic music, Kӣr creates a sound in which drone-navigated post-industrial logos transgresses into a tribal mythos, in search for the traces of the future.
The clash of synths and acoustics invokes an audio landscape of Byzantine sacral traditions and Balkan folklore rhythms.

"Crollo Nervoso" (Nervous Breakdown) is a collection of tracks recorded in Berlin Schönlein Strasse between 2018 and 2020 by Italian super-duo (and cousins) Tans & Mike Tansella Jr. as SONS OF TRADERS. This is their 2nd full album, with over 80 minutes of sonic mayhem from SOT mostly inspired by Genesis P. Orridge, 242, A.S.F., Esplendor Geometrico etc. in the Italian 80's wave tradition. Additionally there are over 24 minutes of remixes by the likes of Chris Mitchell, Chupacabras, Elena Sizova, Jaundice, and Memory Clap Acid.

After a short holiday break we are happy to share the next Rubber Tijd with you. We warmly welcome our first artist of the year and number 81 on the show: Eddie Peake. 

For this podcast Peake presents Memory Cycle 2, an audio piece from a series of sound works he has been making in recent years.

“They are an attempt to recreate as definitive recordings the live DJ sets I play in my performance work. Whereas in my performances they are ephemeral and reactive, here they are somewhat more calculated, although in both instances, chance and coincidence is important. They are collages of looping motifs drawn from a palette of original recordings, voice memos and field-recordings to evoke a sense of nostalgia, the subjective and inaccurate nature of memories, the repetitive and spiralling ideation of an obsessive or psychopathic mind.”

Eddie Peake is a London based Artist and DJ and his work includes performance, video, photography, painting, sculpture, sound and installation. It has tended to take the form of non-linear, immersive exhibitions, usually presented as a web of incongruously and yet inextricably connected discrete objects. Looping or repetitive forms are a prominent element, as is the theme of the inadequacy of verbal language in representing phenomena such as emotions, memories or modes of communication which are not verbal. Another of its foci is the implicit drama within relationships between people, whether they are familial, professional, romantic, sexual or social, and how desire, sexuality, socio-political and cultural constructs, as well as psychological states such as depression impact on them. Peake also DJs under a pseudonym and runs a record label imprint called Hymn.

RUBBER TIJD with Eddie Peake

MALA HERBA is a solo project of a sound artist and queer music activist Zosia Hołubowska. Based on traditional music, magic, & demonology of Eastern Europe, her performances are sonic rituals. Powerful, witchy vocals weaved into hypnotic beats, cold bass lines & romantic synthesizer melodies. The music draws from darkwave and minimal synth-wave, but sometimes the melody cracks, the voice becomes a magic spell and the song transforms into a noise soundscape.

MALA HERBA je solo projekat zvučne umetnice i aktivistkinje čudne muzike Zosie Hołubowske. Bazirani na tradicionalnoj muzici, magiji i demonologiji istočne Evrope, njeni nastupi su sonični rituali. Moćni veštičiji vokali ispleteni u hipnotične ritmove, hladne bas linije i romantične melodije sintisajzera. Muzika vuče na darkwave i minimal synth-wave, ali povremeno melodija pukne, glas postane čarolija i pesma se pretvori u bučni pejzaž.
