Shjva is a Ukrainian artist, the founder of the label Penumbrum, based in Warsaw. Shjva has firmly established herself on the Polish electronic scene as a talented artist and representative of Ukrainian musical culture. Her recent performance at the Community Event stood out for its hyper-immersive tech house and progressive, low-frequency goa-sound, and expressive trance vibes.

Before the Curfew is a series of music podcasts that emerged in 2022 after the reopening of the club following the liberation of the Kyiv region. All recordings presented in this series take place before midnight before the curfew begins. Before the Curfew offers a vibrant snapshot of the Ukrainian music scene amidst challenging times, celebrating resilience, creativity, and unity through music.

Carefully, methodically slicing up visceral beats, Yui builds a heavy web of dubby techno rhythms that yield dance-focused and clever results. Heavy, full, sweaty and embodied techno, his sound is highly refined and cool to the core, and his sets, for those who find themselves in his neck of the woods, are a must-see. Enter Bassiani Podcast 225: a transcendental voyage from beginning to end, from sinister frequencies through taut echoes, dry beatwork, layers and layers of mechanical emotion, and a delicate IDM epilogue in tow. It’s an hour of haunting sounds that shape-shift and climb then descend back to this earthly realm with the softness of a falling feather. Nebulous techno from an antediluvian void, Yui’s sharp-witted sound at its finest.

Robert Witschakowski-Jockel (@the-exaltics) has been a core part of electro's evolution since the late nineties. From early days bringing big names like Jeff Mills and Robert Hood to his hometown of Jena as a promoter, he soon elevated himself to become one of the best acid live acts in the game. Nowadays, he runs his own carefully-curated Solar One Music, has collaborated with Drexciya's Gerald Donald and released his own shadowy electro on Shipwrec, Clone West Coast Series and Crème Organization.  He is a hugely prolific artist who is always tweaking and evolving his sound while staying true to his original sci-fi visions. 

All of that feeds into this week's mix, which is a bumpy, rough riding electro adventure that unfolds with a real sense of narrative. From the icy and high speed launch it quickly moves on to moments of smooth-cruising calm, guides you through solar storms and frantic acid work outs. The texture change, too, from ragged and frazzled to shiny and seductive, but are all stitched together seamlessly by a master of the form.
