The Kuckuck has been flying through Chemnitz since 2015. It sometimes sits in the nests of other birds or builds its own place. When the Kuckuck comes, it creates peace, festivals, love, concerts and other joys with deep and lasting connections. Now it lands on the Mutant Radio and trills in love together with well-known birds.

Georgian 90's Alternative Music - Compiled By Jaba Shavishvili (Mutant Radio X NARR) 30.07.21

On the cosmic gathering we take the chance to gather the first time, as a part of the ALKISAH network.

Senyawa`s “Alkisah” tells a story of a society who disbanded themselves from a collapsing civilization and regroup to build a new one for the future. However, that future may not be there because the impending doom is upon them. What comes after is all that matters.
The album is co-released by multiple independent record labels across the globe, in which the labels are given full freedom to design their own version of cover art and packaging, and curate their own remixes/reinterpretations of the album as part of the release.
This decentralized method of music distribution allows the album to be more accessible, while at the same time redefining music exclusivity by sharing its ownership, and empower smaller scattered powers to grow and connect. More Infos and full list of labels involved:

1. Panel discussion with representatives of the following labels:

L-KW, Artetetra, Communion, Gandula and IN:EX

In this panel discussion, labels involved in the project as well as organizers of Pasar Alkisah will share their learnings as behind-the-scenes participants, performing artists, organizers and provocateurs. In this semi-open discussion format, moderated by PhD researcher and ethnographer Marianna Lis, participants will share past, present and future ideas surrounding Alkisah.

Marianna Lis received her Ph.D. in theatre studies in the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw in 2017. In 2019 she published a book "Wayang. Javanese Shadow Puppet Theatre" on contemporary wayang summarizing 9 years of her research in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. She continues her research focusing on contemporary wayang, theatre and music in post-traditional Indonesia.

Babau is a pantropical Italian duo singing the unearthly delights of unconscious reticular motion, wacky 2D shredding and daily side quests. 
Through a mix of exotica influences,  the project builds full of lofty low poly structures, tentacular mickey-mousing gesticulations, already obsolete sonic ontologies.

Der verlängerte Atem nimmt euch die Butter nicht vom Brot, sondern legt noch ein Stückchen obendrauf. Wahlweise auch Alsan oder Margarine, hauptsache alles läuft geschmiert und nichts wird ranzig. Wir schmelzen die Butter, schlagen sie aus Rahm und servieren sie euch in streichzarter Qualität. Der verlängerte Atem - smooth like butter.

1. Qiroah pak Yaser 1
Qiroah (recitation of the Quran) is a common practice in Islamic communities. While officially not belonging to music, Arab reciters make use of various Maqamat (specific tonal material). When Islam arrived in Java, Javanese adapted the practice of Qiroah by using the Javanese pelog scale. Nowadays this tradition has almost become extinct, replaced by common imitations of the original Arab style. I made this recording in 2020 with Muhammad Yaser Arafat (pak Yaser), an Indonesian scholar who learned the old-school Qiroah Jawa by himself and who even wrote his thesis about this. Thanks to Gerrit who put my attention on the rare Bantul azan in pelog, thanks to Rusdyha who helped me finding Bapak Yaser and, of course, thanks to Pak Yaser himself.

2. Gamelan Monggang
Gamelan Monggang is an archaic set of instruments from around the 13. century. The tuning of the instruments consist of only 3 pitches and there is only one composition which can be played on the set. It is only played at the most important rituals in the central Javanese palaces like Royal weddings, funerals: or Islamic festivals (for instance the celebrations of Ramadan). This recording is from the CD “Original Javanese Music: Gamelan Music, Vol. 3 (Gending-Gending Klenengan)”, an Indonesian production.

3. Macapat 1 (Maskumambang Pelog Nem)
Macapt is a classical Javanese form, basically the recitation of a poem. While a Macapt doesn’t have an obvious Islamic function, Pak Yaser explicitly mentioned Macapt as a strong influence on the Javanese style Qiroah. This recording is from the CD “Gamelan of Central Java - 18 Solo Music”, recorded by John Noise Manis.

4. Gamelan Sekaten 1 (Gendhing Glendheng)
Gamelan Sekaten are also archaic Gamelans. They have been created around the 16/17 century. Javanese only play on them once per year: at the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad. This recording is from the CD “Gamelan of Central Java - 26 Sekaten Continuum Surakarta”, played by musicians from Keraton (palace) Surakarta, recorded by John Noise Manis.

6. Gendhing bonangan Dhenggung Turulare pelog nem
A “Gending bonangan” is a typical form in Javanese Gamelan music which can be played on mostly any modern Javanese common-practice Gamelan. They belong to the “loud” style of the repertoire which omits all soft instruments. While not directly having a connection to Islam, their relationship towards Gamelan Sekaten could be understood as the inverse relationship Qiroah Java - Macapt, since they are basically a modern version of the old loud style Gamelan Sekaten. This recording is from the CD “Gamelan of Central Java - 33 Court Music Gems”, played by musicians from ISI (conservatory) Surakarta, recorded by John Noise Manis.
