The Phase Group Mix continues with an entry by close friend of the label and our guest at the TC LK launch this weekend at Spanners, Scottish selector DJ Peanut. 

London-based DJ Peanut is known for her mastery of dark and psychedelic downtempo sounds as well as bass-heavy, dub-wise club fair. She can regularly be found playing in some of the capital's finest musical establishments including Ormside Projects, Spanners, Kindred and The Gun as well as regular trips back north to play in venues like La Cheetah, Berkeley Suite and Exit in Glasgow and residencies on Clyde Built Radio and Noods. Katie has been invited to join multiple Phase Group line ups in the past, either solo or playing back to back with her regular spar partner Lo Kindre, which shows the appreciation we have for her skills behind the decks.  

Her Phase Group Mix delivers exactly the kind of heads-down listening journey through dubbed out, bass-and-noise-driven downtempo club sounds that we love. A great warm up listen ahead of her set at Spanners this Friday. 

Peanut joins Brussels-based selector Rick Shiver and TC LK this Friday at Spanners to celebrate the release of PHASE008, the new album by TC LK on Phase Group.

Next up at Edwin Music channel is Berlin-based producer and DJ @benediktfrey and his close friend @menqui with whom he co-runs the label R.i.O.

For EDWIN MUSIC CHANNEL, he joined forces with his friend Menqui, who is overseeing the administration for the R.i.O. label, is part of the Berlin-based Muting The Noise Record Store and Distribution crew, runs a radio show for Cashmere Radio and plays regular in all those small, but delicate Berlin bars and little dancefloor venues. Together they prepared an epic mix, created live and direct in Menqui’s living room, featuring all sorts of music from pop, Trip-Hop, and Hip-hop to free-tripping electronic grooves. UK based record label Weapons of Desire was born on the 30th November 2017. The brain child of three friends Alex Handley, Mick Clarke and Toni Aslam. Alex and Toni first met Mick two years before when they had a couple of Auto Sound City EPs out on Mick’s long running Flight Recorder label. 

The saying “Being around the block a few times” is an understatement when you look at the recording history of them all. Playing, making and releasing music all the way back to the 80’s (even further in Mick’s case) seemed like a natural progression when talking about a potential label and the vision they had before its creation using their recording names (Iron Blu and Auto Sound City) to make the kind of music they wanted to dance to. The ethos was and still is to release tough dancefloor publications as stated in the label description "Spinning an endless cable of steel sound".

Over the years Weapons Of Desire has released vinyl as single-sided two track hand stamped records, four track EPs, a couple of six track compilations entitled Machine Funk Vol. 1 and 2, double packs and an album. The label Is also now fully integrated with regular digital releases too.

31 releases and a total of 33 different artists, Weapons of Desire has a seat firmly at the table with more chairs added for 2025. Afterall without great music, life would most certainly be a mistake

@shine-grooves (Andrey Kurokhtin) is a musician, engineer, and vinyl record collector, founder of the Hanagasumi label and record store, and the creator of the cassette station Magnitron. In addition to his main project Shine Grooves, Andrey writes and releases music under the aliases Quadrat, Unlight, and Rokton Ensemble. He also collaborates on several electronic projects with like-minded artists — including X343 and Ryabina.

For us, Andrey has put together an outstanding, cinematic sound collage featuring unreleased tracks and some of his favorite pieces.
