Vancouver's @djhockey brings a sense of playfulness, groove, and emotion to a realm of psychedelic, twisted techno that can often take itself too seriously. He regularly appears at Vancouver venues like Dolly and recently played at the inaugural Osmosis in the Trees festival in Oregon. In addition to DJing, he co-runs record label and mix series @pprzrecords alongside Adam 2, uplifting emerging artists from across the underground and most recently releasing his own latest EP, Celestial Pursuit.

"This mix combined parts of various gigs I was working on that fell through. The gigs had quite differing musical lineups and set times, which I combined with some tracks that had been sitting in my wishlist on Bandcamp but never seen a fit for a particular project as of yet. It quickly turned into my favourite mix I’ve created thus far, as I feel it closely represents my favourite aspects of dance music all in one.

I have been working on trying to incorporate a wider range of my style into my podcasts so that each one doesn’t get tunnel vision, while still telling a slow burning story. I’ve also been pushing myself to make each individual blend something unique. Lots of tracks work well together, but is it something special and new? These are questions I have been asking myself more lately. I like the playfulness of this mix, but it also has moments where you may question what emotion you’re feeling."

Justin Aulis Long is a sonic sorcerer, urban Homeric poet, and cosmic wanderer that exists within the liminal spaces where light meets dark. Long is the offspring of a gorgon, conceived within a brick and mortar labyrinth while surrounded by the supernatural electronic voices of angelic forces.

While engaging in themes of the uncanny and erotic, Long opens thresholds which lead to psychedelic realms during communal dance gatherings. Applications of sonic alchemy during ritual action generate vibrant forces created through collective effervescence, causing a bubbling over of ecstatic energy leading to rapture. During the rite, incantations are expressed through fusing a swarm of aural fragments composed from diverse temperaments by way of a personal and singular technique.Sacred objects (records), selector’s tools (turntables and mixer), body, spirit, harmonic and discordant voices unify and become one - The Soft Machine.

During a ritual performance, phonic collages are created intuitively on sight, sigils are aurally direct with specific intent, and offerings are bestowed before an alter, all charged by an engine of chaos. Time and space unravels while normality ruptures and disintegrates as foundational structures of the status quo are dismantled through intensive executions, founded in the practices surrounding musical selection.

Introduce yourself? Pronouns? Where do you currently reside? 

My name is Lucas, pronouns he/him, i'm 31. I was born and raised in Lyon, I'm currently living in Rennes where I work as an organic vegetable farmer for an association. The farm  is also a venue where we host gigs, parties and more.

Listen to the moment at 1:11 mark in your PI mix… describe how it makes you feel?

It is a moment of growing tension, it makes me feel like I want to be in a club to hear a moment like this. I like when there’s unpredictability in a build up and with the layering of those 2 tracks at that time mark, you can’t really know when the pressure’s gonna be released.

Best gig of your life so far?

It would be both a gig I played and a gig I attended and it was the final afterparty of Positive Education Festival 2018. The most euphoric vibes I've seen on a dancefloor, epic set by the festival co-founders & friends Charles & Antoine as Les Fils de Jacob. 

Favorite mix in recent memory?

Ani/live number 3, livwutang at Nowadays.
Incredible blends of all kind of club music genres.
Exactly what I feel like I want to do these days, thus being far from the result. This mix is really inspiring and really resonated with me.

What would you like to see in the future for the dance community?

I’d like to see more clubs & venues in France like Macadam in Nantes : no pictures/video, nice sound system, inclusive policy and constant communication on how to behave in a club & a lot of smoke inside. I think we lack this kind of venue in the country. The educational part is very important because I tend to find a lot of people being disrespectful towards other people, venue staff and artists.

It’s also Samhain: the end of October where the boundary between the past, present, and future feels thin and energy flows thick. It reminds us of Keith Moxey’s suggestion that time might not “run at the same speed and density” in all places. Either way (or any way), it’s the right time to have Gillen take us through her sonic past across ambient, rock, and funk.

We’ve paired Gillen’s mix with a piece from Berlin-based, Sulaymaniyah-born Hiwa K. Hiwa, while originally a realist painter, now crafts sculptures, videos, and sounds that  “aim [not] for an accurate depiction of a reality that could be, but reinvent and transform the reality at hand.” Work such as Blind as the Mother Tongue unspool the debris of capitalism to better see how social structures like borders and time zones are reinforced. “The work I do is very much about reminding how many fingerprints we have onto each other,” Hiwa mentions, “[and] how much we are embedded into each other.”

Philipp Otterbach has been a pillar of Warning's creative development. While our friendship goes back to before the project even started, he has been shaping the sound of Warning as a resident since day one. 

He was regularly be relied upon to set the vibe at opening slots or to twist the remaining brain cells of lucky ravers at late hours. Those who are familiar with his catalogue of productions are well aware of the deepnees and multi-layered emotions he provokes as an artist. 

BUT for our last party at ://about blank we decided to unleash another side of the Otter. Surprising to some, but hypnotising the masses in the main room at peak time was something that sounded as natural as the delicate mind trips he provides on other occasions. Full throttle on the Otterbahn with a wild selection of psychedelic techno, electro and trance, he mixed a captivating two and a half hour high energy journey, which we are happy to present to you in its preserved form as the 105th Warning mix.

This one took a while, but the wait turned out to be just right because we are closing out the year with a dear friend who marked the beginning of our 2023.

You surely recall that night in January when Marie Pravda made her Sofia debut, turning it into one of our most memorable events to date. The outcome of Marie’s performance, however, was way more important than just another great party. It gave us immense hope that there are still young artists out there who move forward through dedication and authenticity rather than social media hype or cheap “industry” tricks.

Fresh from an extensive tour in Mexico, Marie returns with a mesmerizing mescaline-induced mix that perfectly encapsulates her trademark affinity for seamless mixing and fluid storytelling.
