Flowing, seeping, leaking, cascading, shaping, 𝘴𝘶𝘣𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘥. Displaced from terrestrial-based ways of knowing, Elina Tapio (@elinatapio), together with Hannah Pezzack (@hanapezzack), plunges into oceanic depths. Immersed in this alien milieu, the weight and opacity of water transmogrify perception. To the human ear, noises appear muffled, foggy. But sound waves actually travel five times faster underwater than in air. Far from being a silent abyss, waterways are cacophonous: an orchestra of barnacles, sonorous wails and echoes.
The third instalment of 'Scrying the Landscape' features Markus J. Buehler (@profbuehlermit) and Jenna Sutela's (@jennasutela)𝘞𝘦𝘵-𝘰𝘯-𝘞𝘦𝘵 (2021), a sonic toolkit amplifying the emotive molecules of liquids. For 𝘈𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘐𝘤𝘦 (2020) Hannah Rowan (@rowanhannah) utilised a hydrophone to capture ancient air bubbles – pockets of planetary deep time – escaping from melting icebergs. And synthesist Stan Litjens' (@todaysstan) 𝘙𝘦𝘸𝘢𝘵 (2021) is an ambient interlude composed of field recordings; the lull of rocking boats and seabirds.

SCRYING THE LANDSCAPE VI w. Elina Tapio & Hannah Pezzack!
Molecular thinking digs deep into the way in which realities emanate from different scales. Referencing the porousness of being subverting singular ways of existence; relating to agential cuts in protein formations and ribosomal activity; or considering unstable and unpredictable formation of identities of quantum particles. Accordingly, this episode opens with the sound of two black holes colliding, expressive of mutating landscapes those recorded electromagnetic waves have emitted in their cosmic-scaled genesis, containing alien memories in the crevices of their becomings: folds within folds, macrocosms within microcosms.
The sixth chapter of Scrying the Landscape features work by multidisciplinary artist Tuomas A. Laitinen (@tuomasalaitinen), who recently released his debut album Sapiduz under the name Tal on Öm-sound. His work deals with a broad-spectrum of approaches to symbiotic processes, ecosystems and multispecies entanglements, themes which are also explored on Sapiduz. The album presents celestial medieval singing reverberating with microbial worlds of past times and futures to come.

DJ F16 Falcon is Mathias Kulpinski moniker for dropping bouncing riddims and slow motion rave music, to be found on Fatale, Drama or Notte Brigante.

The LYL Radio resident and Bruits de la Passion feasts regular unleashes for Bamboo Shows the perfect soundtrack to a greek tragedy. Grandiloquent sounds, fresh blood springing from deadly brawls in vast amphitheaters. Mass hysterias, wine flowing like water, carrying away naked crowds from their lustful debaucheries. Somewhere are the ruins of a rave party, there you can finally fall asleep in the grass, stunned by the wailing sirens of these leftfield, rock, trance, acid and breaks odysseys.

Elly & Rikkert’s Dutch Psychedelica 1967-1975

‘Laat mij verdrinken in jouw muziek”

It is very hard to enter a thrift store in the Netherlands without an Elly & Rikkert record somewhere in its bins. Their ubiquity in thrift stores combined with their absence from the Dutch pop canon, especially when compared to their contemporaries like Boudewijn de Groot and Ramses Shaffy, led to the hypothesis that their music must be pretty bad. 

This hypothesis was far from correct. Their early work is soundwise forward-thinking, cosmic, atmospheric, poetically genius and delightfully weird. The combination of a plethora of obscure percussion, wind, string instruments and even the occasional synthesizer creates an otherworldly sound, which is complemented by their storytelling about gods, fables, mythical creatures and fictitious locations, as well as some tender and sweet romantic songs and a few political nods.

They are most well-known for their ‘Christian Children’s music”, which has dominated their image. Apart from a mention in a Lucky Fonz III song and some coverage of Elly's feature on a Boudewijn de Groot song their music is not discussed much in the secular sphere. To re-evaluate Elly and Rikkert this mix was made. Their work gets gradually more religious over the course of the years, especially after their conversion to Christianity in 1976, which is perhaps the reason their early work is so underappreciated; there is no place in pop culture for Elly and Rikkert in an ever-secularising world. 

This mix combines some of our favourite songs and sections from their early work. An ideal soundtrack to a spring trip and to channel your inner commune.
