Sophia Zhuravkova is a Russian ambient composer and artist whose compositions have been captured on Infinito Audio and Prins Emanuel's Ny Agenda imprint. She also collaborates with fellow experimentalist erethia as Ewer - their fantastic self-titled debut is out now on Surf.

Laura Lippie : I feel I started assembling some tracks very fast, like the previous music sessions I did with my friends and music people this past year, very instinctively. And, I feel I kind of like what it brings on the table, this no calculation status , this orientated independent journey, as we naturally collect so much info/intel about our hearts concern (world misery, injustice, sadnesses etc.). So, I just picked some of those processes, put some stuff that lights up my vibratory activity, with memories or rhizomes that combine throughout, beliefs and taste for experimental surroundings and extreme gravity in simple cold flesh harmonies. The first track being from Iran, and the rest tells its narrative on its own.

Laura Lippie - Oddity Influence Mix

For the final Phase Group Mix of 2022 we invite Loma Doom from Amsterdam to the series. 

Loma Doom - real name Femke Dekker - lives in Amsterdam where she's a vital member of the music scene, a seasoned digger and radio host as well as a curator and educator of contemporary art. Her dedication to radio is quite amazing, holding residencies on Radio Tempo Nao Para, Echobox Radio and Stranded FM as well as Ja Ja Ja Nee Nee Nee, an online radio station dedicated to art.

For her Phase Group Mix she has gifted us with an expertly composed deep listening experience. One hour of shamanic trance moving through dark droning soundscapes, tribal percussion and ancient voices chanting echoing incantations, recorded live at the Radio Tempo Nao Para studios in Amsterdam. Scrying the Landscape XIII. Dedicated to particulate bodies, the thirteenth episode of 'Scrying the Landscape' features soundbites from cloudy and sandy fields, and sentimental music for wandering. From accumulated matter to big feelings and turbulent intimacies, this mix drifts beyond the human [at times] to think about 'the tidalectics' of falling apart and holding [it] together. Friends born out of late-night revelling and pandemic living-room rants, together they find respite and a field of inquiry in nearby shores or the memories of more distant ones. The quiet lee-side of the dunes by the North Sea provide shelter and a space to question and practice listening [attunement] and transmission.

A sunny July day. You're in an old pine forest by the river. You can hear the rustling of the branches, the crunch of pine cones under your feet, and the engine of a lone motorboat. Walking beside you is the person who unexpectedly agreed to spend three hours getting here on a stuffy commuter train. The subtle aroma of shashlik and a familiar song from the early 2000s drifts over from either the «professor’s» dachas or the abandoned recreation center nearby. Later on, there will be much more: a steep sandy cliff and a gravel-laden barge, chilled white wine and a small white plane in the sky, lots of awkward jokes and refreshing river water. Of course, you don’t know yet, but years later you will remember this day as one of the best in your life. And if it could be made into music, it would be a patrin’s mix for 5/8: radio
