Performed by the esteemed Ballet Preljocaj, the 90 minute piece was inspired by classical literary work, The Thousand and One Nights. Fans will be thrilled that it sees Atlas's long-awaited return to electronics and sound design whilst she continues to draw on the acoustic/classical. But this is only the start. In Les Nuits, Atlas's voice becomes an instrument in its own right, seamlessly weaving itself into the multi-stranded Atlas-Bishai fabric of sound design, electro-acoustic contemporary Western classical music, classical and folkloric Arabic music, film scores, and jazz. In Les Nuits, Atlas and Bishai take us on a musical journey of unprecedented panoramic proportions reminiscent of the Nights itself, guiding us through a dazzling array of narrative soundscapes overflowing with lusty vitality, disquieting menace, ephemeral beauty, and shocking savagery. Les Nuits - Natacha Atlas & Samy Bishai - Sampler

Gray Hoodie is the debut album from french musician / composer Elise Mélinand. The album, written in Berlin then sequentially recorded throughout various locations in France, was initially inspired by the techniques she was exposed to after being recruited as part of Christina Vantzou's (Kranky / The Dead Texan) Little Prism Ensemble. Her newly adapted recording and composition tool, the laptop, is undeniably the norm today. However, it allowed Mélinand to better visualize her compositions while experimenting with techniques that Gray Hoodie so skillfully showcases. Crafted by Mélinand to tell a story of a friend who gave her a gray hoodie one cold evening. This gray hoodie was a symbol of their friendship and this album is said by Mélinand to be "A way to thank him for everything he gave me". Gray Hoodie showcases Mélinand's childlike voice and legato string work juxtaposed over frenetic experimental beat-work all injected into ten cinematic vignettes that exude the comfort and warmth of a sweatshirt on a cold day.

YISHAK BANJAW is a composer and keyboard player from Addis Ababa known to his country for his innovative compositions and unique sound. His ability to transform traditional Ethiopian songs into spacey Minimal-Wave gems creates an ultra hypnotic and psychedelic atmosphere, a sound that you have never experienced before.  

Love Songs Vol.2 was recorded in 1986 at Yishak’s house, while he was working for the Police Band in Eritrea. It was released by an Eritrean label on cassette and was also distributed in Ethiopia. However, due to the shaky political situation, Yishak was forbidden to travel anywhere outside his country, including Ethiopia. Consequently Love Songs Vol.2 remained a very obscure and neglected musical experiment. Until now Yishak has released 7 albums on cassette but, unlike many Ethiopian musicians, has never managed to reach a wider and international audience. 
 
On this album Yishak Banjaw chose to play everything on a small Casio PT, “a keyboard for kids” as he proudly mentions. He recorded the whole album live, directly to his tape recorder. Although his main instrument was a Godwin keyboard, he actually preferred to rent the Casio from a friend, as he was blown away by the way it sounded. This choice alone reveals a genuine talent that dared to beyond what his colleagues were doing at that time.

The LP version of the album is a Deluxe Edition and comes with a gatefold cover, a printed insert and an MP3 download code. The CD version includes a booklet with photos and liner notes outlining the story of this unique musician who carried the long tradition of Ethiopia into another level.

The Dale Cooper Quartet & The Dictaphones are returning with their 4th album called "Astrild Astrild". Like all of the previous albums, the band recorded the seven pieces at home in Britanny during several sessions between 2013 and 2016.

The characteristics of this full-length are classic drone soundscapes mixed with deep tone saxophone parts that became the band's trademark since the release of their debut album in 2006. Slowly paced, the new tracks are following the Quartet's basic structure and classical sound. Apart from that the new full length conceals more live takes including guitars, bass and Rhodes keys and even piano sounds are haunting for the first time at the end of 'Ocho Acenteur'. With these new elements the songs of "Astrild Astrild" are pushed further into a large tunnel of deafening rhythmic parts and field ambiant textures.

Vocals are a major element of the Dale Cooper Quartet & The Dictaphones' DNA since the second album "Metamanoir" (2011). Sometimes breathy, sometimes deep and often mysterious, Ronan MacErlaine, Gaëlle Kerrien and Zalie Bellacicco voices appear in the corners of the songs as ghostly figures or eerie characters.

The new album "Astrild Astrild" is a glimpse of the present live sound of the Dale Cooper Quartet: 50's crooners singers, noisy guitars, atmospheric electronic and hypnotic jazz. All of these elements painted in monochrome black.

The word Anamkhara derives from the Irish Gaelic language and means "friend of the soul".

All of the tracks on the CD are composed and arranged by Kelly Thoma, who is one of the core members of Ross Daly's "Labyrinth" ensemble for the past ten years. Her chosen instrument is the Cretan lyra which she plays in her own unique way, reflecting the rich experience which she has gained in Labyrinth through her collaborations with master musicians from various countries. Her compositions reveal a rich imagination and a wise and mature balance between the indispensable discipline and austerity which characterize the traditions she has studied, and the creative expression, free of dogmatic attitudes, which is the fundamental need of any young artist. The sound of many bowed instruments in combination with the exceptional percussion work of Zohar Fresco is the hallmark of the album.

Four other significant musicians of international stature participate on the album, Efrén López on the vielle a roué, Pedram Khavar Zamini on the Iranian tombak, Ahmet Erdoğdular with a vocal improvisation in the Turkish gazel style, and Ross Daly on the tarhu and Cretan lyra.
