مدیر هتل: باید بهتان تبریک بگویم؛ اولین چیزی که بیشتر مردم به‌آن فکر می‌کنند، سگ است.
برای همین است که دنیا پُر از سگ شده.
تعداد کمی از مردم هستند که جانوران غیر عادی را انتخاب می‌کنند و برای همین توی دردسر می‌افتند. لابستر انتخاب عالی‌ است.

در ناکجاآبادی که گردانندگانش رویای جوانی و باروری اجباری مردم را در سر دارند و جفت‌یابی و جفت‌گیری بالاترین فضیلت است، مجازات تجرُد، در نهایت  تبدیل شدن به حیوان و دادن فرصتی دیگر، برای یافتن جفت است. این آخرین بختِ زندگی است و پس از آن مرگ در انتظار حیوان بی‌جفت است.
جامعه‌ای که برای فهماندن شعار «هر چیزی جفتش بهتر است» یک دست‌ات را بیست‌وچهار ساعت می‌بندد تا فراموش نکنی که «وقتی از چیزی دوتا وجود داشته باشد، زندگی آسان‌تر از زمانی‌ست که فقط یک‌دانه باشد».
