An Introduction To Kaidi Tatham

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Motown, the iconic record label launched in 1959 in Detroit, Michigan by Berry Gordy Jr., Carhartt WIP will release a thirteen-piece capsule collection in the coming weeks. The collaboration honors a label that reshaped the sound of American pop music, diversifying its airwaves in the process. 

To mark the collection launch, we reached out to Detroit native Kenny Dixon Jr. aka Moodymann and asked him to prepare a strictly Motown music Carhartt WIP Radio show, that displays his personal love for the label.
 
As Moodymann is not man for hasty reactions, he delivered a detailed mix featuring rare b-sides, interviews and live recordings by Motown artists like Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Steve Wonder, Kem and Dazz Band. Asked about his very own feelings towards his mix, Kenny Dixon Jr. simply says: “No matter where I‘m standing it’s good to hear home sometimes. These songs are woven into the soundtrack of my own personal movie.”  There is nothing more to add, only: enjoy the ride!

Our own @fredfades recently did a live set on Facebook from his crib in Tøyengata in Oslo, which we now decided to upload on da cloud for ya. One hour of carefully selected favourites from his massive record collection. The mix contains a mixed bag of sounds, and spans from british reggae and street soul, to african boogie and US house records. The mix was done live on two Technics 1210, a Condesa Lucia with a DigiTech Obscura Delay on the FX/Send, then it all ran through an API 2500 compressor. The original Facebook performance was a fundraiser to support Doctors Without Borders in their response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sample Special - NTS Radio Show 19/04/20

Because of the current global situation, it's been awhile since Space Ghost and friends have been able to host their monthly dance party Open Soul. While everyone is stuck at home, the Open Soul crew have decided to pick up where their mix series had left off 2 years ago, starting with Vol. 3 by Space Ghost.

This mix holds a few classic selections from the dance night, as well as some more recent finds. Expect an obscure mix of Boogie and Disco mostly from the 80s. These songs are for sweaty nights on a packed dance floor at Starline Social Club. We hope to be back doing what we love one day soon!
