MUUI (live) - The Journey Is Everything

The tenth edition of the microcastle podcast welcomes label artist MUUI back for his second showcase. The Berlin based producer is coming off his second project for us entitled 'Seminal'. Released in February, the four track EP featured another diverse selection of music, earning support from John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo,  Guy J, Sasha, Nick Warren, Guy Mantzur, Agents of Time, Third Son, Stephan Bodzin, Gardens of God and many more. 

For the tenth edition of our podcast we've chosen a live show of MUUI's from a recent gig at S.A.S.H in Sydney, Australia. Comprised of all his own originals, showcased are six brand new, unheard tracks along with live / alternate versions of his Bengal remix, 'Placid', 'Hide Seek', 'Clouds', 'Touch', 'Taet' and ending  in gorgeous fashion with 'Vrijeme'. A connoisseur of dynamic productions; from the studio to a DJ set or performing live, blending his hybrid synth-laced melancholic house and techno. The Berlin based artist has long been praised for his distinctive design and creative vision, offering you a concise and personal slice of his universe with each interaction.

MUUI’s varied discography reflects his many influences and his exploratory nature always searching for a unique approach, ranging from stunning tranquility and melancholy through to four to the floor dance-floor orientated electronic music lending from techno, house and indie influences all with a unique finesse, working with an extensive list of vintage and modern hardware synthesizers, drum machines and processing gear that has seen him carve out a raw sound all of his own, a fresh message that resonates through each release and his live show.

With a lust to cover new ground coupled with his fascination to experiment with technology both old and new his heavy focus on live performance saw the birth of his debut album ‘Escape The Remedies’. The album was released in January 2015 via the Berlin label Crossfrontier Audio with the official album launch held at Watergate, Berlin. The album went on to reach # 1 Deep House Release on Beatport and was named in the Top 20 Dance Albums of the Year by Hot Press Magazine alongside albums from Roman Flugel, Simian Mobile Disco, Marcel Dettmann and Steffi.

Releases followed on Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music and Microcastle alongside his second studio album ‘Following Today’, warping listeners into a carefully built exploration and was his most mature output to date. The album once again placed in the Beatport Top 10 charts. With each new release MUUI continued to gain the support of some of the most respected artists in the game including Laurent Garnier, Patrice Baumel, Marco Carola, Hernan Cattaneo, Guy J, Noir and Tiga 

Drawing on past experiences as a club promoter, record store manager and creative director, Here Now. was conceived as a new creative outlet for MUUI to bring together exceptional music and creative artists by way of events and a record label. Setting a clear vision, the debut releases are a selections of innately hypnotic pieces of electronic music matched with compelling contributions from film makers and visual artists from Norway, England and Germany. Since his first release in 2014, his fascination to experiment with technique and technology has continually expanded his prowess as an artist. A heavy focus on live performance saw the birth of his debut album ‘Escape The Remedies’. The album was released in January 2015 via the Berlin label Crossfrontier Audio with the official album launch held at Watergate, Berlin. 

Releases followed on Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat and Microcastle alongside his second studio album ‘Following Today’, warping listeners into a carefully built exploration and was his most mature output to date. The album once again placed in the Beatport Top 10 charts and the lead single “Rsrsrs” from the album was licensed to the Alex Niggemann Balance CD release. 

2017 saw the birth of his own imprint; Here Now was conceived as a new creative outlet for MUUI with the vision to bring together his music and other creative artists by way of events and a record label. Setting a clear vision, the first releases have been a selection of innately hypnotic pieces of electronic music matched with compelling contributions from filmmakers and visual artists from Norway, England, and Germany.  

In 2019 MUUI released his follow up EP on Sudbeat, alongside several raw and vibrant analog explorations planned across the year on Here Now.

With each new release, MUUI has continued to gain the support of some of the most respected artists and media in the industry. Outside of the studio since 2016 MUUI has shared his live act and DJ sets in Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland, Serbia, Lebanon, Morocco, Turkey, Mauritius, Argentina, Australia, South Africa, Kenya, Thailand and the USA.

**** Thanks for all the comments! Creating and performing what I make is an exciting and rewarding process! When sharing what I do its nice to know it finds its place into peoples lives and evokes something in you, this continually feeds back into what I am doing, just like I feel the need to create I appreciate that some of you also feel the need to voice and share what you think or feel in the comments or messages. For some more clarity, this is a concept live performance recording, the approach is focused on it as a whole and not individual tracks or parts. All the music has been created and performed to share one long evolving idea drawn from a culmination of moods, experiences. The emphasis on this idea to build a feeling and vibe outweighs that of striving for perfection, structure or energy of a traditional presentation of music.
