I have just completed recording a 6 part suite of "classic" electronic music, in the tradition of the great studios of the 50s - 70s (to learn more, see the Wikipedia article on "Electronic Music") but with more contemporary threads throughout. The sounds come from my Eurorack & Aries systems; plus a little bit of voice, percussion, and musique concretè). It's an attempt to explore how the past year+ (pandemic, social justice and the lack of it in the US, climate change, authoritarianism, economic inequities...) has felt to me. Among all the various genres of music I have worked in, it is this approach to electronic music that I first started with in the mid 70s. It has been a thread all along through everything I do. It has been exciting to be a part of the modular synth revival that started in the first years of the 2000s, and continues to grow (to learn more, see Modular Grid at https://www.modulargrid.net/ ). An original Latin-influenced jazz fusion track with lots of percussion and high energy guitar and synth soloing!

Since finishing the pieces from my current EP, I have been working on a new piece outside of my comfort zone. It started as rough sketches and a chord chart, but I was stuck at further production attempts. I tried a few iterations, all unsatisfying. I ran the piece by a musician friend who suggested looking outside the box. After further dialog, it evolved into a Latin-influenced jazz fusion arrangement.

Here is “She Looked Back”. It’s a collaboration between myself and Adam Holzman (Miles Davis, Steven Wilson), and features a couple of other players who requested anonymity (their call). It was primarily recorded in my studio (Siri’s Little Corner) and Adam’s Secret Laboratory NYC. I mixed it, and it was mastered at Abbey Road Studios by Sean Magee.
