This month will see Ryan Lee West aka Rival Consoles debut his new live set, restricting himself to a small selection of analogue equipment such as the Moog Voyager, Prophet and tape delay, as he supports Luke Abbott on his UK tour.

In celebration, Rival Consoles offers his fans a free download of the title track 'Odyssey' – a reflection of his quest to create atmosphere and space from minimal arrangements. His new EP also features label friend Peter Broderick and is available now on Erased Tapes.

Rival Consoles – Odyssey

Sevan Shahmirian is an IDM music artist, Composer, Music Producer, and multi-instrumentalist based in Yerevan, Armenia.
Sevan was born in Tehran, Iran, in a diasporan Armenian family. From a very young age, he started playing the keyboard and as he got older, he started singing in the school choir per his father’s suggestion. He started his professional career in music in 2007 with the band Wednesday Call in Tehran, Iran. He was the lead Synthesizer player and vocalist. After three albums with Wednesday Call, in 2018 he moved to Armenia and continued his career as solo artist and shifted his work from Rock to Electronic music.
Sevan’s first album will release on august 21, 2021. This album is called Fractals and is consist of seven songs; they are concerned with Sevan’s personal characteristics.
1-KOMITAS : The first and foremost person of importance for Sevan is Komitas. A Armenian Priest, musical theorist, composer, orchestra leader, instrument player, master of educational science… This is why he named his first song of the album after him. The voice of Komitas can be heard in this piece, he’s reciting a piece of Lory Gutenberg and after it is finished, the song enters a modern dimension; as if Sevan opens a portal from the familiar simplicity into modernity and prepares the listener to take a journey into the depths of the album. 
2-ECHO : The four-minute instrumental energy boost makes you move. This is what Sevan does to his pupils as an athletic coach. Sevan has made this song using his fans’ point of view; an energetic and athletic man, and a bit hot-headed. At the end of the song, the voice of Benoit Mandelbrot, a French-American mathematician who is named the father of Fractal Geometry, is utilized.
3-SPURIOUS OBSESSION : Spurious Obsession is Electronica/Downtempo and it is without vocals but it utilizes the voice of Alan Watts, British-American philosopher, writer and scholar; it talks about anxiety. The melody is relatively chill but carries some anxiety with it; as if someone who has been struggling with anxiety is talking. Sevan has suffered from Hypochondriasis not long ago and he talked about it in the musical form.
4-FORMIDABLE : The eight-minute-long Formidable is Electronica/Downtempo. Sevan believes this song is just like him in his characteristics, he feels it with his flesh and bone. He has written the lyrics himself, only four lines but deep, Sevan wrote that for his own path going forward and himself; although he believes anyone can interpret the lyrics as they see fit for their lives.
5-DOZE : Doze is placed in Electronica/Downtempo genre, can also be considered Chill music. Sevan believes Doze to be the chilliest song in the album and it helps to digest the rest of the six songs like peppermint! The soothing voice of a girl singing Armenian Folk music will remind you of your childhood naps, as is suggested by the title of the song. The singer is Parik Nazarian,
a well-known Folk artist.
6-WHERE DO WE GO : This is the only protest song of the album. A protest to modernization of everything, control and even the cells of the body. This is the second and last piece where Sevan sings vocals. It gets more interesting: Sevan had written this piece before the COVID-19 pandemic, and yet the lyrics are completely relevant.  
7-ALBATROSS : The last song of the album that conveys the feeling of an albatross flying over a foggy sea; a flight that Sevan saw with his own eyes over the Sevan Lake of Armenia and was immediately drawn to it. Finally, the very last recorded voice of Farhad Mehrdad, a legendary Iranian musician, was used because Sevan’s utmost respect towards him.

Seeking to reimagine music from his eclectic repertoire in a neo-classical context, Iranian producer Amirali made a triumphant return with the release of his ‘Sokoot’ EP, alongside the soloists of Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich last month. Now, nearly a decade after the release of critically acclaimed debut full-length ‘In Time’, he is finally ready to unleash its stunning follow up. Set for release on 24th November via his own imprint Dark Matters, ‘Trial & Error’ is a labour of love perfected at Abbey Road, his unique explorations of electronic music resulting in something extremely powerful, cinematic and emotionally fulfilling.

Amirali emerged from the Crosstown Rebels camp in 2012, demonstrating exquisite craftsmanship on his dynamic pop-infused bomb of a debut ‘In Time’. Captivating the dancefloor with a seductive concoction of weird and groovy, it presented the multi-faceted producer as the new voice in dance music, effortlessly blurring the line of techno, disco, funk and electronica. ‘In Time’ won praise from the likes of Mixmag, Resident Advisor, NPR, BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 6 Music, cementing his place in dance music’s new elite.

The global response to the album allowed Amirali to tour extensively, undertaking a heavy schedule from Fabric and The Warehouse Project in the UK, to Vienna Opera House, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, and Warung & D-Edge in Brazil to name but a few. Since then, fired by the need to innovate artistically, Amirali decided to take a break from touring and submerge himself within the process again.

“I tried to be honest with myself throughout this whole process, this is why I called the album ‘Trial & Error’. I didn’t have a dynamic setup in the studio and I was constantly changing things around, experimenting and using different techniques to compose these pieces.”

After being teased with the beautifully jagged and unnerving sounds of ‘Sokoot’, Amirali returns with an impressive solo album to once again stake his claim as one of the brightest jewels in electronic music, as Mixmag once called him.
