An all-star selector who builds sets from the underground up, Chaz is a deep digger, classy collector and all-round purveyor of rare finds and classic tracks from the bygone eras of house, techno, trance, electro and iterations in-between. Having played host to international artists including Kabuto and Mark/Klon Dump under the Syrup Records banner, Chaz is well acquainted with throwing a damn good party. In more recent times, Techworld (run alongside @sandpit_alias) has risen like a technicolour phoenix from the ashes of lockdown to cult-like status. As the scene’s taste for faster tempos grows and accelerates, Techworld offers monthly reprieve from the chaos by taking us back to basics. Good records, long sets, a rotating roster of the country’s finest DJs and a custom ENM Research mixer coalesce (with a few blue drinks) once a month at miscellanea to give us 18 hours of unadulterated afterhours hedonism. Chaz joined me live in the PBS studio for Passing Notes episode 187, but here we are lucky to hear a 1 hour guest mix recorded live at Techworld.

"For me the most interesting tracks are always out of the genre. That's why there are a lot of tracks from house and techno albums that just sound unreal. And likewise - you can find a house gem on the old ambient album for example. This is the sense of digging. A significant part of songs involved in this mix are made by dance producers and it's in line with "Difficult Dance".

max self is a DJ from Lewisham, London. He runs a tape label called Sweet Tapes - putting out mixes from the likes of Eliza Rose and Tia Cousins. Also he runs a Youtube channel 'Sweet Crates' in conjunction, uploading unearthed gems from his collection. Over the years he has also thrown lowkey parties across his hometown, with Fantastic Man and Bjørn Torske among his bookings.


 
As a DJ he draws from a wide range of influences, from heavyweight dub, soul and downtempo to blissed-out house, ukg and jungle, a slice of which is on display here.

Daan Donk is an avid record collector, a sublime DJ and a well-known face within the Dutch party scene, earning his stripes as the booker of Woodstock '69 and maintaining residencies at ZeeZout and the Sugar Factory. His sets consist of a blend of old school house, broken beat and tasteful electro that will guarantee a dynamic vibe anywhere he plays.

He is also the man behind Likeminded, his own party series which is known for the promoting highest standards of club sound, with the intimacy and warm feeling of a house party. The musical focus of Likeminded lies in the less obvious corners of house & techno which has seen the likes of Nicolas Lutz, Francesco del Garda, Onur Ozer and more smashing the dancefloor.

Recorded live at this year's festival, Daan Donk's debut in the Moat stage was a memorable one, setting the tone ahead of Courtesy, Detroit in Effect and Helena Hauff for the Zeezout takeover. Enjoy the obscurities in this one.
