This week's guest is Krishna Villar. Krishna is a Mexican, Miami-based creative expressing herself through architectural design and of course, music. She is the vinyl radio host of Juicy Fruit Records on Empty Plate Radio. Her sounds are fused with bits of Jpop, Taiwan disco, Indian disco, Samba, Peruvian cumbia and more. She dedicates this mix to all the great psychedelic cumbia bands, Los Mirlos, Los Destellos, Los Pakines, Ranil y su conjunto and more.

Vintage slow and midtempo killer grooves with intoxicating female vocals. 
This mix is exclusively compiled by Fred's girlfriend in her own style, after making a top 20 selection from the records we found in 2019. Both Radio Martiko ladies, Loes and Heleen have been supporting Radio Martiko in so many ways for years now. It's time to honour that and also the talented ladies in this playlist.

TPS 039 - EASTERN NOTES- Selections by WoMu Vin

Guest selector WoMu Vin (@WorldMusicVinyl) is back with an all Algerian Chaabi selection.

Here are his notes: This mix is named after Café Malakoff of the Casbah of Algiers which was considered the prime meeting venue for the most prominent Chaabi artists of 20th century Algeria. In fact, in its heyday it was owned by the most influential Chaabi master of his time, the legendary Hadj Mohammed El Anka, who was nicknamed "The Cardinal" (of Algerian Chaabi).

The mix features several legendary Algerian Chaabi artists including Hadj Mohammed El Anka, Dahmane El Harrachi, Boudjemaa El Ankis (whose picture appears on the artwork of this mix), El Hachemi Guerouabi, Abdelkader Chaou, Amar Ezzahi and Amar Laachab.

Another legendary Algerian Chaabi artist/songwriter/composer who should certainly be mentioned in this mix's notes is Mahboub Bati, the man who wrote and composed some of the biggest hits of the names mentioned above (with the exception of El Anka and Dahmane), many of which are featured in this mix; undoubtedly the leading moderniser of Algerian Chaabi in the second half of the 20th century.

All tracks were recorded from vinyl and cleaned up digitally to improve the poor mastering and/or pressing quality of some of the records; a time consuming task that was completely worth the effort given how great I think those tracks are.
