Sunny Side Up Vol. 4

One day while looking for something to watch on Netflix I came across an independent film called "Indie Game" in which an upcoming game by the name of "FEZ" was being created. Not just the game but the music had completely captured my attention so I decided to look up the artist who wrote the soundtrack. He goes by Disasterpeace and is a serious master at what he does. Totally blown away by his work I decided to buy the album and while listening to the track "Nocturne" decided I would remix it for no particular reasons but my own self fulfillment.
About a month or so later after having this track just sitting around I decided to say "what-the-hell" and tried to contact this Disasterpeace fellow to tell him that I remixed his track. He immediately got back to me to announce that he has a remix album of the FEZ game and that it will be released in less than two weeks time and that he wanted my track on his album and that he is not going to release it until I send him my track...I was completely blown away by this!

So here is the link to the album, the remix album and the rest of his amazing work. Please enjoy this completely serendipitous remix of Disasterpeace's "Nocturne".

Welcome to the first installment of "House Talk & Pallet Jazz". A brand new monthly here in Chicago, IL where we get to connect the artists with the people, as we MAKE the chance to sit down and talk about some of the most incredible and important stories to the DJ's and producers that have made them such an important part of OUR lives today. Stories that can only help us understand how there is much more to life than just being amazing with music, but rather the people that make the miracles  for us to get to where we are today with music and everything in between.

Presenting episode five of House talk and pallet Jazz where we are going to feature somebody very near and dear to our hearts. Somebody who has been in the game since the game was a game. We’re talking about none other than the one and only Mr. Jesse De La Pena. 

Both the interview and his live DJ set at our HQ: The foundation room (in the house of blues) was one of the best we have had to date! 

We dive so deep into the history of Chicago music culture. Hip-hop into house, music into life performance, the way things used to be, and what it took from pioneers like Jesse to make them the way they are today.

Sunny Side Up Vol. 8

This 2-hour mix is a live recording of My Boy Elroy & Duke Shin opening for Italian techno heavyweight Fabio Florido (MINUS, SCI-TEC) as he made his Chicago debut at an all-night loft party, with support from Mia Wallace and Derek Specs on Sept 29, 2017.

After kicking off the first hour of the mix with an unadulterated 30-minute block from both Duke and Elroy, the set progresses into a b2b journey, tagging rounds of 3's, 2's and 1's to create the distinctive sound and flow of the Adventuresome duo... with perhaps a bit more of a techno-leaning direction for the night...

Taken by the sounds of minimal, deep house, and techno this live mix is like nothing I have ever done before. Very relaxing and also very moving. The God in me recognizes the God in you...Namaste.

Every now and then I come across a producer(s) that's just so undeniable I can only want to spend a good portion of my day listening to them completely uncut so I will spend days listening and collecting all my favorite tracks of this artist and organizing them into a set that would hopefully send you on a journey as well as gain an appreciation for them the same way I have. Sebastian (Lovebirds) has been excelling in the deep house scene for many many years setting himself apart from the rest with every track after the last. By far some of the sexiest and good-feeling summertime deep house I have ever heard in my life. So this one hour mix is dedicated to one and only Lovebirds. (For Promotional Use Only)

LOVEBIRDS:

Lovebirds is the solo project of Hamburg resident Sebastian ‘Basti’ Doering. Following 3 excellent singles on the much-respected Winding Road Records label, Lovebirds is big news right now. Labels such as Freerange and Buzzin Fly are hot on his heels, eager to sign his tracks.

The first Lovebirds release appeared on Trax of Interest in [year]. In 2006, having built up a repertoire of unsigned material, he sent a CD to John Buckby, label owner of Winding Road Records and a mutual friend of Vincenzo.

The Lovebirds sound is like a blast from the past with house steroids packing serious production muscle. Listening to Lovebirds is like taking trip back to the 70s and 80s - but riding in a gleaming futuristic spaceship.

The first Lovebirds single on Winding Road was the ‘Modern Stalking’ EP, which came out in 2007. The EP contained tracks of mid-tempo house, each coming from a different musical angle and giving the world a taste of what he was capable of. It was received by the deep house and neo-disco community with open arms. Top-flight DJ’s such as Prins Thomas, Ashley Beedle and Jimpster went wild for it. Bill Brewster made the EP the Single Of The Month in iDJ magazine. Lovebirds had landed.

His second single for Winding Road was slamming vocal track ‘Love On My Hands’, which featured the voice of Holly Backler. As with the first EP, this release drew much praise from the deep house cognoscenti and put Basti ever more firmly on the map. Most recently, July 2008 sees the release of third single for Winding Road, ‘In The Shadows’. Once again, an extremely classy offering received by the tastemakers to great acclaim.

Although the Lovebirds name has burst onto the scene relatively recently, Basti is no beginner in the production game. Basti formed Knee Deep, together with old friend Toddie Freese in 1998. Knee Deep became a household name in the dance scene, leading to international DJ gigs and mountains of remix work. As Knee Deep, Basti has remixed Jamiroquai 3 times, as well as Bob Sinclair, David Morales, Brandy, and many others, even winning the prestigious “best remixer” category in the 2002 German Dance Awards in the process (beating Timo Maas along the way).

A few years on, Basti had achieved all he wanted to with Knee Deep, and was ready to move into more deeper, melancholy musical avenues. And so Lovebirds was born, which is now his main project. His production experience means that he is able to finish well-rounded tracks off in a matter of days, constantly building a repertoire of classy dancefloor and mellow sounds all destined to wow the world.

The process is well on its way already. The cream of the dance world has its eyes on Lovebirds. Tom Middleton is a big fan. Jimpster has signed up some tracks for a first EP on Freerange. Ben Watt is in regular contact and has signed a track for one of his recent compilations. Basti is involved in fruitful collaborations with Holly Backler, Vincenzo, and other artists. As if all this wasn’t enough, Basti is gathering a collection of songs for release on his and Vincenzo’s new label Teardrop Records, which is destined to become an essential new addition to the house library.

This 17th label release offers five wonderful and carefully-chosen selections of melodic electronic grooves, ranging from progressive house to deep house to melodic techno, produced by a handful of the Windy City's finest. In a year of unprecedented change and challenges, music has been the fabric keeping us united in the face of uncertainty, and this small cherry-picked collection of songs is being sent out to you all around the world to help close out 2020 – from Chicago with lots of love.

First up - Vested label regular Jeff Ozmits and label newcomer Bedroom Logic team up to bring you "Secret Sky" – a driving melodic peak-hour progressive gem that begs to be hammered during a prime stretch of evening. A deep and bouncing bassline paired with pleasing synth arpeggios really hit the sweet spot here and start this release off right.

Second - Vested label head RJ Pickens teams up with Tru Musica label head Brian Boncher to collectively bring you "Astral Dream" – a house-driven melodic progressive tune layered with guitars, synths, stacked percussion, and a bassline paying playful homage to an electronic classic. Special thanks to instrumentalists Jim O'Reilly and Skeebo Geebo for their melodic contributions to this composition!

Next up is the multi-faceted My Boy Elroy in a team effort with OpenOptics in bringing you "Where Do We Start Now" – a sublime deep melodic house offering infused with synthwave leads, organic handpan textures, a trotting rhythm section, and a low end groove that just feels amazing. Special thanks to instrumentalists OpenOptics and Troy Page for their contributions to this project!

"Clearing Space" is a lush and textured melodic techno composition with deep and driving groove from staple Chicago artist: Hummingbird. She's assembled a lovely, intricate, and moody piece of electronic music here will have you listening to all the nuances amongst the smooth energies of this piece over and again.

And rounding out this release is "Deeper Than Us" by FJ9 – a really promising newcomer to the label and the Chicago music scene alike. Fusing elements of melodic techno, house, and electro in this composition, he delivers a modulated-synth-driven piece of music that truly finishes this compilation with a big bang. A bonus edit of this track has also been provided for those of you who just want to cut to the chase.

My Boy Elroy is the Chicago-based DJ/Beat-Boxer of the world famous Acid Jazz pioneering group and Grammy nominated live act, Liquid Soul. He is also known as the DJ and producer of Digital Tape Machine's first album entitled "Be Here Now" released May of 2013 as well as a strategic follow up four track EP "Omens".

His passion & dedication to his craft along with his unique presentation quickly led him to open for a sold out show at the Riviera (Chicago) for the one and only Massive Attack, which at that same venue fatefully set him to set the stage for a few respected legends like Bonobo, STS9, and the Disco Biscuits.

He has shared the bill with legendary greats of our times such as B.B. King, Stevie Wonder and pioneers of electronic music such as Bonobo, FKJ, RJD2, Beardyman, Derek Carter, Paul Johnson, Ron Carol, Kerri Chandler, Marques Wyatt, Mark Farina, Claude Vonstroke, and playing such festivals as North Coast, Electric Forest, Taste of Randolph, Aura, and so many more!

His DJ styles are a combination of buttery and emotional mixes and productions of Deep and Funky House, Nu Disco, Tech House, and Instrumental Hip-Hop with beat box and scratching spicing it all up bringing you a completely original sound of DJing and musical performance.
With a vast catalog of smooth and eclectic mixes My Boy Elroy has a great deal of his life dedicated to producing original music with releases on Apulia Records, Bulletdodge, Slur, Elevate Tracks, JQM Records, Sea of Sand, and Friction Free.
