Quadrant Soundscape presents In Focus: Greyscale

For the second mix of our 'In Focus' series we turn the spotlight onto one of our favourite Dub Techno labels, and one of the most consistent in terms of the quality of their output. We bring to you, Greyscale.

Having begun back in 2012 by Lithuanian producer Grad_U, Greyscale has gone on to play host to some of the worlds finest Dub Techno producers including the likes of XDB, Resoe, Ohrwert, Mike Schommer, Fluxion, Federsen and DeepChord to name a few. 

In 2021, Greyscale introduced us to their 'Mood Compiled', which are 20 track double CD/digital compilations, consisting of 1 track from each of the previous 'Mood Series' EP's release on the label. 
The 1st (#1-#20) was released early in 2021 and the 2nd instalment (#21-#40) was released in the last few days.
The Mood Series itself, was intended to be for up and coming artists around the world, but as the series began, most of them were already the cream of the crop. And without question, the quality of the music was so good, they became some of the best releases in the genre.

2021 has also seen Greyscale introduce us to the brilliant 'Exposure Series'. These releases are where the emphasis is getting the featured artists to vinyl. As we are big lovers of physical releases, this is something we personally have appreciated greatly, especially knowing how difficult and time consuming vinyl production is, yet Greyscale never fail to surprise us with the quality of the vinyl that comes from them. 

Greyscale has always grown from strength to strength, but notably it has been strong from the very first releases. For this mix we wanted to try and highlight these strengths, and also show the diversity that can be found at such a formidable record label. 

In Greyscale's own words:

Evgene Sergeev is a Russian electronic music producer, DJ and Dissymmetrical Music label owner from Saint-Petersburg, known under the aliases  Limit, Asymmetric and 3rd form. Evgene starts his way as artist like Limit and he’s mostly released light side of Atmospheric Jungle and Drumfunk. Asymmetric is an opposide version of Limit and he’s released more dark side of this genres with abstract and sometimes really hard sounds and non-simple percussions. As 3rd form Evgene has released electronic music in other genres. Since 2007 his music has been released on Microcircuit, Opposide Records, Digibeat Music, Facture Records, Omni Music, Eastern Promise Audio, Pinecone Moonshine, Burelom Music and of course on Dissymmetrical Music. He also hosts Dissymmetrical Podcast Series where you can hear new sounds from him and from other label artists. Today you can also listen to that sounds in Evgene’s Speial GuestMix for our show.
