Potsu potsu (ぽつぽつ) can be used at the very beginning of raining. Some drops fall down from the sky and hit you potsu…. potsu…..

The sky gets dark and people look up anxiously. Some start to walk faster hoping to get under a roof before the rain catches you. 

Para Para (ぱらぱら) is similar to potsu potsu. Para Para is more random as if some one is sprinkling some water by hand. Sometimes it rains even though the sun is up but it stops soon while you are wondering weather you go back for an umbrella or not. Para para is a little more drops than potsu potsu. But Potsu Potsu rain is either the beginning of the actual rain or the rain is about to stop.

Back once again with the mic dropping wisdom of Mr Alan Watts, interspersed with music to push and pull your mood with care. “When trees grow together, nutrients and water can be optimally divided among them all so that each tree can grow into the best tree it can be. If you "help" individual trees by getting rid of their supposed competition, the remaining trees are bereft. They send messages out to their neighbours in vain, because nothing remains but stumps. Every tree now muddles along on its own, giving rise to great differences in productivity. Some individuals photosynthesise like mad until sugar positively bubbles along their trunk. As a result, they are fit and grow better, but they aren't particularly long-lived. This is because a tree can be only as strong as the forest that surrounds it. And there are now a lot of losers in the forest. Weaker members, who would once have been supported by the stronger ones, suddenly fall behind. Whether the reason for their decline is their location and lack of nutrients, a passing malaise, or genetic makeup, they now fall prey to insects and fungi.

But isn't that how evolution works? you ask. The survival of the fittest? Their well-being depends on their community, and when the supposedly feeble trees disappear, the others lose as well. When that happens, the forest is no longer a single closed unit. Hot sun and swirling winds can now penetrate to the forest floor and disrupt the moist, cool climate. Even strong trees get sick a lot over the course of their lives. When this happens, they depend on their weaker neighbours for support. If they are no longer there, then all it takes is what would once have been a harmless insect attack to seal the fate even of giants.”

Email Q&A

Q: What's life like in Osaka/Japan these days?

A:I was born and raised in Osaka, so it's a comfortable place for me.
Osaka is a counter to Tokyo in some ways in Japan, and there are many original and talented artists and DJs.

Q: It's been a strange and difficult year for you, can you tell us a little bit about your experience in Japan in 2020?

A: For me, I've spent more time at home this year, so I've written more music than in previous years.
I gigged less, but I think it was good in terms of enriching my music production.
And a lot of responses through SoundCloud led to work.

Q: How do you keep your energy up during this time?

A: Listening to new music. Playing with my daughter.
While it was hard to see my friends, I spent a lot of time with my family and sharing music information with my friends through the Internet.
That may not have been the way it should have been, but it was the best I could do this year to find joy in it.

Q: Which artists from Japan do you think are doing good things?

A:First of all, Ground, who organizes Chillmountain Rec.
I had been away from music for a while and he invited me back, in 2018, which was a big turning point for me.
Then there's Mamazu and AkiraArasawa, who I played with on ShangoRecords' Japanese compilation released in December.
Churashima Navigator and Harikuyamaku, who fuse Ryukyu music with DUB and club music.
Their music is very functional and excellent.
Also, Taiyo, my senior since I started music, has recently resumed producing music.
He is a very high quality and respected artist.
I also think the music of female singer Maika Loubte is excellent.
I am also very influenced by Takkyu Ishino, the Japanese techno pioneer who inspired me to make music.
As for DJs, J.A.K.A.M, KENSEI, HIKARU, YAMA, DeskoDeska, 7e, etc. are very inspiring.
The list goes on and on.

Q: How would you describe your production style/influences?

A: I love the energy and groove that is created when music that seems to have no real connection with each other is mixed together.
Techno, house, ambient, disco, reggae, hip-hop, jazz, rock, world music, krautrock, etc...
I like all kinds of music, but I'm more attracted to the ones that have more creative elements than the ones that are musically stable.
The genres I use as a basis for my music, such as Dub and AcidHouse, were invented by accident, and in a sense, I consider them to be music with irregularities.

I think the most important things for my music are the dance floor and humour.

“Ostriconi” is the first full length album from French multi-instrumentalist Jean Dasso, better known as Yeahman, and its release at the start of 2021 on New York based Wonderwheel Recordings is  kicks the new year off with dreamlike finesse.

"Decorator crabs improvise accessories using whatever is around, grabbing items such as seaweed, corals and sponges, and sticking them on their shells. Everything stays in place thanks to the hooked hairs, called setae, which line their shells and act like Velcro.⠀

"For example, the yellow line arrow crab tears a piece of seaweed in its claws and then chews it to make it rougher and more likely to catch on its shell. ⠀

"Others choose decorations that are chemically noxious or otherwise repugnant to predators, like the long-legged spider crab and the longnose spider crab that cover their shells with toxic seaweed. Some crabs even use sea anemones. ⠀

"Like all crustaceans, decorator crabs must shed their shells in order to grow, but they will often recycle their decorations after they moult. Carefully removing all the seaweed, anemones, sponges and other accessories from their old shell, they attach them to the new one when it hardens." - @newscientist⠀
