13, unlucky for some - but for us, a sign of Anjunabeats’ continuing evolution and our ever growing family. The next instalment in the #1 iTunes Dance selling series, ‘Anjunabeats Volume 13’ is announced for release at the start of 2017. For Above & Beyond as DJ’s and label owners, what started off as a beautiful endeavour in a beach in Goa has developed into a family of melodic minded and forward thinking producers, and we hope this mix encapsulates those thoughts.

2016 has seen Above & Beyond play headline shows at Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome, SW4 in London, Miami’s RC Cola, as well as Creamfields, EDC Vegas and various Ultra festivals, plus a sprinkling of iconic venue appearances at The Royal Albert Hall in London, The Hollywood Bowl and The Greek in California, USA and the Sydney Opera House with their Acoustic ensemble. 

It was time for our ‘Beats and ‘Deep imprints to undergo a new coat of paint in 2016, the rebrand for both labels taking on a more bold and striking visual look, while continuing to maintain the essence of sound that has made Anjuna so distinctive. To add to that, sold out Anjunabeats and Anjunadeep tours transversing the globe, and one special night - where dreams were made true and tears were shed on the dance floor of the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam; what an incredible year it has been.

With the label taking to North America again for another towards the end of March 2017, Above & Beyond present two mixes showcasing the very best in label talent, represented by Anjuna artists past, present and future.

CD1 displays Anjuna’s diverse progressive sounds, from the melancholic notes of Cubicolor and newcomer Luttrell, to Jaytech and Spencer Brown’s groovy offerings, and the energetic electro riffs from Fatum & Judah, all the way to defined Anjunabeats mainstays Andrew Bayer, ilan Bluestone and Arty. Scottish DJ Grum offers up the showpiece from CD1 with his cover of ‘Shout’ by Tears For Fears. And of course Oliver Smith continues his record of appearing on every compilation since the beginning; this year he’s conjured up a quartet of dynamic sounds. 

CD2 transports you straight to the club. Debuted during their set at the Ziggo Dome, Andrew Bayer & ilan Bluestone’s much anticipated and sought after intro track ‘Destiny’ gets things going, quickly followed by Gabriel & Dresden’s 2004 remix of No One On Earth by Above & Beyond, modernized for this compilation. That man Oliver Smith delivers 2 more beauties, including a delightful update of his 2005 remix of the classic ‘Amsterdam’ by Luminary, before a host of heavy hitters from Above & Beyond (including one with Justine Suissa), Seven Lions, iIan Bluestone, Myon, Jason Ross plus many many more close out the compilation.

Man must some day once again visit the moon, and venture beyond. Anjunabeats is already on that mission as we try to emulate the future with our ever evolving sounds and global influence in electronic music. We’ve loved our label journey thus far and ‘Anjunabeats Volume 13’ is yet another impressive milestone on a journey that is far from over.

The first single to be taken from his forthcoming debut artist album, ‘Frozen Ground’ reunites ilan Bluestone with British singer / songwriter Giuseppe De Luca. 

Since joining the label in 2014, ilan has been at the forefront of the evolving trance sound. With an ear for hooky instrumentals, organic chords and dance floor minded productions, the likes of ‘Big Ben’, ‘Spheres’ and ’43’ became euphoric moments in DJ sets for the likes of Above & Beyond and Armin Van Buuren.

A prolific touring artist, ilan has headlined the Anjunabeats North American tour in 2016 and 2017 as well as joining Above & Beyond at Madison Square Garden and Sydney’s All Phones Arena.

The follow up to ilan and Giuseppe’s breakout hit ‘Bigger Than Love’, ‘Frozen Ground’ was debuted during Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy 200 show in a sold out 13,000 capacity Ziggo Dome.

For Giuseppe, inspiration for the song came after he joined ilan on stage at EDC, “there’s something about witnessing a sea of people gathered together to feel something that really helps to warp the borders of reality. I had this Brechtian idea of a specific sound, that when heard, would snap the listener out of their everyday veneer and allow them to connect with who they truly are. On Frozen Ground, I feel that sound, forever."

Returning to the progressive trance sound that he initially built his name on, Artem Stoliarov aka Arty reprises the well-loved Alpha 9 alias for his latest Anjunabeats outing alongside London duo Koven.

Following a series of Arty instrumentals on the label throughout 2016 including ‘Patriots’ and ‘Follow The Light’ (alongside Andrew Bayer), ‘Only Good Mistake’ feat. Koven surprisingly marks the Russian producer’s first ever vocal single on Anjunabeats.

A vocalist and producer duo in the bass world, Max Rowat and Katie Boyle aka Koven have released on a number of renowned labels including Viper Recordings and Monstercat. 

Recent years have seen Arty himself explore all sides of the electronic music world, most noticeably in 2015’s diverse and experimental ‘Glorious’ LP. Elsewhere his mix for Moby’s iconic ‘Porcelain’ showed a deeper, broken beat side to his sound. 

In ‘Only Good Mistake’, however, the Russian producer defines a clear, singular melodic progressive house sound that has all the hallmarks of a festival hit and bodes well for the rebirth of the Alpha 9 alias.

September sees Myon renew a studio relationship first formed in 2014 with his debut co-production with the US Late Night Alumni collective. 
Tonally and thematically ‘Hearts &amp; Silence’ picks up where ‘Under Your Cloud’ left off. It again underscores the brilliant, near-alchemic triangulation between Myon’s clubbier, more driving studio
instincts, L.N.A.’s cooler housier, elements and the quiet persuasion of singer Becky Jean Williams’ empathetic,
affecting vocals.
On the club mix Myon‘s techier contours and more electro-lining FX light the track’s touch-paper. Against its
riding percussion lines and elegiacally bleeping intro melody, collectively they instil a lament-filled emotive to its
early minutes.
As sensitively written as they are deeply moving, Becky’s ‘Hearts &amp; Silence’ lyrics and vocal put the brilliance of
her from-the-heart songwriting into sharpest possible focus. As the track moves towards the drop, those more
wistful vocal accents fade, replaced - in feel and tone - with first hope, and then belief.
Though their music Myon and L.N.A. skilfully shadow this transition. With evermore uplifting elements –
orchestral strings, seaside atmospherics and beautifully crafted/strikingly elevating synths all supporting the shift,
it swells to its heartening, enriching post-break conclusion. Classy, organic music making at its absolute finest.

Above & Beyond are reunited with Sunderland-born singer and songwriter Marty Longstaff for 'Flying By Candlelight’, the first in a new triptych of future club classics from the prolific trio.

Lifted from the upcoming ‘Common Ground Companion EP’ (which also includes ’There's Only You’ featuring Zoë Johnston and ‘Distorted Truth’ - set for release on the band’s Anjunabeats imprint in March), fans can watch the official lyric video for ‘Flying By Candlelight’ on Above & Beyond’s YouTube channel or stream both the Original Mix and Above & Beyond Club Mix on their favourite streaming platform.

Debuted at Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy 300 celebration in Hong Kong last September, A&B share this ode to the elevating power of love in several flavours: Original and Club, each a delicious serving of the songwriting chops that recently swept Above & Beyond to their second GRAMMY nomination for Common Ground album cut ‘Northern Soul’.

Says Tony McGuinness, "Flying By Candlelight is a love song about a saviour who rescues our protagonist from a dark, lonely place, taking him through a spectacular night sky. A bit like The Snowman by Raymond Briggs, but a bit longer lasting!”

Instantly recognisable, entirely unforgettable, ‘Flying By Candlelight’ is the second A&B vocal feature for Longstaff, who contributed the disarming vocal to Common Ground album cut ‘Tightrope’. More commonly found performing under the moniker The Lake Poets, Marty has risen to prominence in recent months with moving single ‘Shipyards’, penned for his home town of Sunderland, UK. The song accompanies the opening credits to the sleeper hit Netflix documentary, ’Sunderland ’Till I Die’.

Marking the 500th catalogue release on Anjunabeats, those who like their music in a tactile format will be able to get their hands on 1 of 500 limited vinyl pressings of the ‘Common Ground Companion’ EP, available for pre-order on the Anjuna Music Store at 5pm GMT on the 23rd of January. Above & Beyond’s bruising instrumental ‘Distorted Truth’ will be released on the 8th of February, with Zoë Johnston’s haunting ’There’s Only You’ completing the Companion EP release on the 29th of March.
