"Le café" is one of my favourite pieces from The Nutcracker. I used to listen to it on my mp3 player, but for some bizarre reason, fully turning up the volume wasn't enough to listen to all the instruments. A solution came one night. The silence and solitude of the late hours allowed me to enjoy the beauty of one of Tchaikovsky's greatest works. Back then, to compose music was just a dream. Now, it's something I simply do, and I love it.

I've wanted to respond to one of his open collabs for a while now, but this is the first one that really came together. 

Thanks to Ian for offering up these super cool vocals, they were very inspiring to work with. I love the themes of unity and positivity that he infused into this track.

I hope this song conveys a little of that experience, even if I haven't been able to experience it myself yet.

Diver's Dream World - OMCB

Hey…. So I put down the slide guitar the other day, and picked up the mandolin after a slide solo wasn’t working. Then did this little song. A rather surreal look at the metaphysics of stars as they relate to us. Occasionally, we are at a loss to make sense of this life. I find perspective in observing the night sky, among other things, even if for only a brief moment. Hanging out with others helps too. So does playing music. I usually laugh at myself in those moments and realize just how fascinating life can be. I mentioned this story before, but in a different context. I have been ‘caretaking’ a fire ant colony for over twenty years. The common sense of today’s world would seek to destroy the colony, as labeling them as ‘nuisance pests’ comes with a dire consequence for the ants. Fire ants bite only to get a grip and then sting (from the abdomen) and inject a toxic alkaloid venom called solenopsin. Anyway, the colony had been in my neighbor’s yard decades ago, and I did my best to encourage him not to destroy the colony. But after seeing a friend of his riding over the colony with a riding lawn mower, I knew the colony was doomed if it stayed there. Then one day, while emptying the kitchen compost bucket into the compost pile, I saw a long trail of fire ants coming from my neighbor’s yard into mine. They had begun to build a mound near a brush pile in the back. So the ants have been here for 5 years or so. Sure, they may strip an aspen sapling bare, or try and sneak into my vegetable garden, but for the most part, they have been good neighbors. They have come out of their mound now that it is a little warmer. I was cleaning up the gardens in the back, and noticed hundreds of them working on their mound. I looked yesterday and I saw this one ant carrying a large twig, way bigger than him, on top of the mound. As he walked, the twig was waving back and forth like a sword raised in the air. I laughed (to myself) and realized it had been a while since I had done so. This song is about all those little things in life, like that, that bring us back…. Hope you like it. A mi padre (For my dad) HD Version 

Created in January 2021 and published in February 2021.

Life sometimes gives us a second chance. My father had it 45 years ago when he survived a serious accident when he was going to work. Contrary to medical opinions, he was able to walk again, have two more children, travel, and watch his family grow during all that time.

He survived cancer ten years ago and no longer able to move as before, he took refuge in learning everything he could think of: he learned computer science, journalism classes and English language.

From him I learned many things ... effort, honesty, passion to learn ... love for music.

Before all that and getting married, between the fifties and sixties he was working in the south of Germany, where he soon learned the language with a Bavarian accent, which caused him some problems in the north of the country, where he was after a few years as well.

When he came from there he brought a typewriter (He loved writing for some years), a radio, a record player and a tape recorder, where he listened to his favorite music. And that was what he listened to when I was a kid.

My father passed away a few days ago, and it's been hard times for me. 

This little tribute is for him.

When Broken Hearts Go For A Walk

I was watching a documentary about the 70s and 80s music and wow…..the music was great. The mood so uplifting and funky…..perfect to dance to. I have to say that so many awesome musicians and bands made it in the 80s, obviously not all disco music. So many fantastic Indie bands as well. 
We dream through music.
Today is Sunday with sunshine and this music I felt was perfect to lift the mood. So enjoy and be happy if only for around 7 minutes. Love to all. Copyright protected ©
