Our No. 224 comes today from an artist who accompanies me for what feels like an eternity and since then always knows how to inspire with his new productions. You can definitely call him a connoisseur of downtempo, because he stands for me emblematic for the rise of the subgenre and has shaped the scene globally with his countless pieces - no still does.

We are talking about Niju who is always good for a surprise with his very special, organic but mega fascinating sound. No matter if alone or together with Ninze & Okaxy as Wide Awake (@wide-awake-8), he always provides with his playful and atmospheric way in his productions, remixes, edits and also sets for special experiences on the dancefloors, living rooms, bedrooms as well actually on all ears in the world. At least on all those who can appreciate downtempo. Definitely for me as a big downbeat fan. Then, now and tomorrow definitely too. I'm sure of it.

His set recorded for us is emblematic of his sound. To me, the whole tape basically feels like a typical Niju production, only in XXXXXXL format. At the beginning velvet soft and dreamy, yet discreet groovy and later from and then also danceable. And all garnished with a good portion of hypnotic elements like cranky voices and partly indefinable sound fragments. Great. Definitely a typical Niju, who joins our podcast series with his 2.5 hour journey like painted.

Buckle up... I can only repeat myself, but you can expect a journey made for an afterhour. Not a phrase, not fake news, but honest words from a music loving Spessarter.

Unsere Nr. 224 kommt heute von einem Künstler welcher mich seit einer gefühlten Ewigkeit begleitet und seither immer wieder mit seinen neuen Produktionen zu begeistern versteht. Man kann ihn definitiv als Connaisseur des Downtempo’s bezeichnen, da er für mich sinnbildlich für den Aufstieg des Subgenre steht und mit seinen unzähligen Stücken die Szene global geprägt hat – nein immer noch tut.

Die Rede ist von Niju  der mit seinem ganz speziellen, organischen aber mega faszinierenden Sound immer wieder für eine Überraschung gut ist. Egal ob alleine oder zusammen mit Ninze & Okaxy als Wide Awake (https://soundcloud.com/wide-awake-8), so sorgt er stets mit seiner verspielten und stimmungsvollen Art in seinen Produktionen, Remixen, Edits und auch Sets für besondere Erlebnisse auf den Dancefloors, Wohnzimmern, Schlafzimmern….ja eigentlich auf allen Ohren der Welt. Zumindest auf all denjenigen, die dem Downtempo etwas abgewinnen können. Für mich als großen Downbeat Fan definitiv. Damals, heute und morgen auch. Da bin ich mir sicher. 

Sein für uns aufgenommenes Set steht sinnbildlich für seinen Sound. Mir kommt das ganze Tape im Grunde vor wie eine typische Niju Produktion, nur im XXXXXXL Format. Anfangs samt weich und verträumt, dennoch dezent groovig und später ab und dann auch tanzbar. Und alles garniert mit einer gehörigen Portion an hypnotischen Elementen wie verschrobenen Stimmen und teils undefinierbaren Klangfetzen. Klasse. Definitiv ein typischer Niju, der sich mit seiner 2,5 stündigen Reise wie gemalt in unsere Podcast Reihe einreiht. 

Schnallt euch an… Ich kann mich nur wiederholen, aber es erwartet euch eine Reise, die wie gemacht für eine Afterhour ist. Keine Phrase, keine Fake-News, sondern ehrliche Worte eines musikverliebten Spessarters.

Ich danke dir vielmals Niko für dieses besondere Set. Umwerfend tiefenergreifend und erfrischend gut. Chapeu.

Merry Christmas to all of you out there! We are very happy to welcome Käpt'n 12 & Düsentrieb under the tree today. Just in time for the Christmas afterhour, Ivi and David have conjured up a special treat for us, a soulful journey full of beautiful heartbreak and groovy relaxation. Make yourselves comfortable, have fun with the mix and see you next year <3

Attached is a little statement to our three questions:

1. musical influences
We find it rather difficult to fixate on certain genres. I would say that we rather dig through the music and where we like it we stick.
The most important thing for us in music is the interaction of harmony and groove. Speed doesn't even play that big a role. We like to lose ourselves in the slowness of downtempo, but at a really good house/techno session we are in the middle of it instead of just being there.

2. Good Afterhour
Not too small, not too big, preferably familiar people. Mattress camp and a fog machine must not be missing. Musically it may be with pleasure a colorful journey, but what may not be missing in any case is a pronounced trash session. We had already thought about adding one to this set, but out of consideration for the ears of the listeners, we left it alone.

3. thoughts about the set
The tracks are chosen to relax the legs after a night of raving and to wake up the mind in a harmonic way.

Frohe Weihnachten ihr alle da draußen! Wir freuen uns sehr, heute Käpt'n 12 & Düsentrieb unter dem Baum begrüßen zu dürfen. Pünktlich zur Weihnachts-Afterhour haben Ivi und David für uns ein besonderes Schmankerl gezaubert, eine beseelte Reise voll schönem Herzschmerz und grooviger Entspannung. Macht's euch gemütlich, viel Spaß mit dem Mix und bis zum nächsten Jahr <3

Anbei noch ein kleines Statement unseren drei Fragen:

1. musikalische Einflüsse
Wir tuen uns eher schwer auf gewisse Genres zu fixieren. Ich würde sagen dass wir uns eher durch die Musik wühlen und da wo es uns gefällt bleiben wir kleben.
Das wichtigste für uns bei Musik ist das Zusammenspiel von Harmonie und Groove. Geschwindigkeit spielt da nicht mal eine so große Rolle. Wir verlieren uns gerne in der Langsamkeit des Downtempos, aber bei so richtig zünftigen House/Techno Session sind wir mittendrin statt nur dabei.

2. gute Afterhour
Nicht zu klein, nicht zu groß, am liebsten vertraute Menschen. Matratzenlager und eine Nebelmaschine darf nicht fehlen. Musikalisch darf es gern eine bunte Reise sein, aber was auf jeden Fall nicht fehlen darf ist eine ausgeprägte Trash-Session. Wir hatten schon überlegt eine an dieses Set anzuhängen aber aus Rücksicht auf die Ohren der Zuhörer haben wir dass dann doch gelassen.

3. Gedanken zum Set
Die Tracks sind so gewählt, dass sich die geschunden Beine nach einer durchgeraveten Nacht etwas entspannen können und der Geist auf harmonische Weise wachgekitzelt wird.

Treibend und rumpelnd, schlammig und funkelnd - versumpft mit uns krüglich und lauschet dem Sumpfophon. Eine Reise beginnt, die Krüge sprießen, Äuglein schließen, Öhrchen spitzen. Der Sumpf ist unruhig, Schallwellen treiben ihr Unwesen.

Wie fluoreszierende Brotkrumen liegen sie feinsäuberlich in einander gereiht wegweisend im S-umpfeld des Zuckerhauses und führen uns in Versuchung.

Es knuspert von allen Seiten, Zeit sich zu verneigen da kommt Hænsen, dänzend - aus der Zuckergussmainson, sie scheint zu glänzen - zu funkeln wie Biolumineshænsn.

Während die Hexe verhext von der Auswahl der Tracks kompfwippend & nickend neben Gretel am Fenster sitzt, Sonnenbrille an wie in Gangsterclips und vom Set von Hænsen beschwippst, feuchtfröhlich schaukelt, fast schon taumelnd und staunend! Soo darin liegt also der Sinn, das fanden schon die Brüder Grimm!

Knusper knusper Sümpfchen, wer spielt denn da die Trümpfchen?
Geschwind geschwind, es pfeift - Hænsen im Wind!
