Uplifting dub-infused club music from Utrecht, where https://soundcloud.com/lunaludmila has been carving out her own electronic micro cosmos over the last two decades. The Dutch dj and producer returns to SoHaSo with the beautiful Hoisin EP, which represents her bright look on how dance floors should move. 

While working on her upcoming live set, this creative process led to a lot of new music, as the four tracks on this EP illustrate. Take for instance title track Hoisin Dreams, which combines sultry strings with breakbeat-infused rhythms and pulsating baselines. Change of Scenery is equally challenging and bright. With its stomping kickdrums it even gives a slight nod to Underworld. On the club friendly Thalia, tribal rhythms take the front stage while closing track Waterkant is clearly a more dreamlike affair, with its dub heavy basslines.

My intention with the mix was to encapsulate the more peak-time club energies that I’m consistently drawn to at the moment, and from this, the natural layering that happened with the mix is a beautiful epitome of how I experience meditation. At the start of meditating, I go through x amount of minutes weaving through thoughts, sensations, going into a few thought spirals by accident, all on a steady stream towards something. It’s like the thoughts and feelings are all catching my attention, pulling me in a bit further. And then I get to this breakthrough point where it feels like my mind has completely cleared and I have pushed past the stickiness of thoughts; which the bridge in the mix massively resembles to me. On the build to this, the tempo & rhythm is something that can be followed to this point, resembling the forwards motion taking you from your conscious mind into your subconscious mind. I had quite a profound experience of this at Positive Education late last year. I had the intention for Space Drum Meditation’s set to follow the sounds with my eyes closed and to engage with my body throughout it. The difference I felt in my mind and body afterwards is something that has stayed with me since. It struck a deeper chord on how meditative music is, if you let go and allow it to be. So this is where the concept has occurred quite naturally, where music and meditation meet in taking us somewhere beyond ourselves.

What is the most common denominator when a person evolves in a rapid speed and goes from novice to all-around maestro? We’d say talent. That is what Stella has. 

A newcomer to some, virtuoso to others. The way Stella grew from the underground scene in Helsinki to a resident at one of our most beloved Clubs in Kaiku, is nothing short of extraordinary. Her ear for the moment and current sound is un-paralleled and has helped her form a unique sound that elevated her place in the citys hierarchy. 

Her secret is to instead of shutting emotions out, she let’s them guide her. ”It is a nice way to get to know what I am feeling with just listening to different kinds of music and choosing what resonates the most with me in that specific moment”. This is evident in her mix. 

Like a solar eclipse, these moments when someone comes in and reshuffles the deck does not happen often so take note before it’s too late. Bow down.
