This perhaps is one of my complicated works. Not structurally, but rather developing new materials based on the 4-bar theme (Bar 22-25).

This work is written with the "layered" form/ texture, stacking materials vertically. I am not sure if it is accurate to say so, but I would this work as "impressionistic".

The 7/8 metric and the shifting rhythms makes the piece less rigid. 

I quite enjoy the doubling of strings and piani, which is used extensively in this work. I also like that the celesta quite stands out from the orchestra, so I developed on the 4-chord motif (Bar 170-175) and made it the second theme.

The first movement of Symphony starts with a late-romantic lyrical theme by cello accompanied by light-hearted strings. Immediately after the first appearance of theme, sweet melody is introduced by flute. The thematic material then developed into a majestic passage with full string voices, followed by the introduction of woodwinds. The theme reappeared in its inverted form afterwards giving new colours to the development. As the motive development intensifies, horns and trombones join and put contrasts to the string-based theme. After the climax, the piece dissolves into a mysterious entity.

This string quartet was started on a freezing December night last year(2017). I finished the piece this month because I was working on other pieces. 

In the first half of the piece, I tried to introduce dissonance to address the seriousness of winter, while trying to make the melody as crystal clear as icebergs. Towards the ending is of much warmth and harmony, which symbolize the end of WInter and the return of Spring.

This works depicts two binary stars which orbit each other. As you may notice, the note A endures the whole piece and is one of the main themes. Rhythmic complexity is a feature of this piece.

I faced some personal and social challenges, and probably I reflected those frustrations and fear in this piece.

Mov I: It is depicting the early life of the Prince born in a falling and chaotic empire. The Prince (As in the heroic theme, uplifting as in Strauss's Poems) is the only thing that gives hope for the empire. The rest of the passages are all dark and spreading horrors, mimicking wars and famines.

Mov II: The Prince is now a young leader of the empire. The troops he recruit show their power to his people and march to the battlefield.

Mov III: The Prince has won the battle and settle the threats. In remembrance of the dead, he holds a ritual for them to praise their contributions. All souls are remembered and blessed.

This 3-minute piece is written for an Image Challenge of the "Composer Challenge" Facebook group. About the scene, it is about a kitten who realized it has the power to become a lion. And it did, in its dream. The kitten saw the lion roaring in the reflection, as if it was fighting for its own glory and fate. The kitten woke up eventually and understand one day it is going to be a lion.

In spite of the precise nature of my career, I love composing music which in contrary, does not require too much calculation but can derive from random yet passionate thoughts. Composing good music needs lots of time and hard work, but it's worth it as I treat it as a way to express myself.

I have been an amateur Violinist for 10 years and participated in several Orchestra in my city. The most impressive and critic point in my music adventure is my discovery of Bartok a few years ago when my orchestra was to perform Bartok's Divertimento in an oversea orchestral competition (SCL Festival). Bartok's music leads me to the contemporary world of music and encouraged me to explore the rest of the spectrum of music, other than my former knowledge of only Romantic and Classical Period music. The complexity of late-romantic and contemporary music sparks my interest in creating such wonderful art, and that's the start of my composing journey.        

I started composing since 2013 and my current composing style starts to develop since 2015. I currently focus on contemporary piano/ string (quartet) works. My main influence is from Bartok, Rachmaninov, and Shoshtakovich.
