2016: A Strange Odyssey

Probably the simplest track on the album, a simple extended verse over a sample driven beat. 

The few people who have heard this song prior to it's public release seem to believe it's romantic in nature, the truth is that the song is written from the perspective of a drug addicts father, it's inspired by a real event but not one I've directly witnessed or been involved. Since writing this, I can also apply these lyrics in reference to peoples assumed meanings based on personal events.

David Imitates Goliath

This song was born out of desire both the write a romantic piece, to write a narrative piece and to write a piece full of Lovecraft references, I do all these things again on this album but not at the same time. 

This song takes place in one of the dark fantasy lands that exists in my head and adapts the sadly too real situation of realising the person you spent so long obsessing over is a flawed human being who doesn't care about you. This is filtered through the lens of a knight on shining armour travelling through a demonic fairly tale to climb the princess's tower. 

It's worth noting that someone in the recording studio thought the vocal sample was from Future, it's not but saying who it is would be snitching on myself.

Houses Overlooking The Abyss

This song was inspired by reading an article on Robert E. Howard where he discusses that the ideas for his fantasy stories where all inspired by reoccurring dreams wherein he was a Barbarian in a fantastical world. My deep affinitty for Howards work combined with a late-night watching of Brazil meant that I decided to combine that fact with my own (in the words of Sage Francis) 'complicated case of escapism' to make this song.

This song is about robots. 

The people who've heard this already seem to think it's some dense critque of consumer culture, but it's not. 

I wrote a song about robots making a future humanity obsolete until they leave Earth in face of a nuclear war, it's somewhat Asimov inspired. 

Also worth noting that this is the earliest song made for this album.

Hollow Man Of Iron

I wrote this song in homage to works of one of my favourite authors, H.P Lovecraft, which is rather ironic considering how racist he was. 

The track is written from the perspective of one of the many Eldrich Abominations Lovecraft wrote about and I make many direct allusions to his work throughout.
