Hopeless is a roleshift AU inspired by the harsh aesthetic of Underfell. The harshness of the character's personalities altered the events following the human-monster conflict, leading to an underground riddled with disarray. That said, at their core everyone is still the classic characters you know and love, even if it's a little harder to see that than usual.

Asriel takes the role of Toriel. In order to protect his best friend Chara from the wrath of his parents and all of monsterkind, Asriel has barricaded himself and his friend within the Ruins, which he has turned into the happiest part of the Underground. Or at least he's trying to.

✦ [A decade later...]
✦ ???: Moooom I don’t want to go to school! Do we even need it at this point?! I have a Recvn see look!!
✦ [The child slams the ground and it begins to shake, sucking all of the oxygen in the air within 3 ft of him into the ground.]
✦ ???: Mmn!! C-Can’t!! Breathe!!
✦ [The power releases, allowing him to breathe.]
✦ Ruby: Oh goodness, Zach. Look at yourself. You can’t even control it! Of course you need to go to school! 
✦ Zach: But moooommm..
✦ [Ruby forms a ball of Recvn Energy in her hand.]
✦ Ruby: Zachary. Go on. 
✦ Ruby: I’ll see you at 2, okay?
✦ [Zach hesitantly stomps out of the house, off to school.]
✦ Ruby: Kids these days, tch.

✦ [About an hour later…]
✦ [A massive boom from the sky happens, followed by the sound of cracks.]
✦ [Ruby runs to the window in shock, looking up to the sky.]
✦ [A massive crack streams across the sky for miles, into the distance to the point she can’t see it.]
✦ [Ruby’s eyes contract.]
✦ Ruby: Oh, God.
✦ [If you look closely, within the crack in the sky, other beings from other universes can be seen.]
✦ [The crack begins lifting objects from the ground itself. Eventually, lifting people.. even more objects, and land masses itself.]
✦ [It can be seen ripping two massive land masses from Xitrater itself... Appears to be the land of Alpine Incline and Cloud.]
✦ Ruby: This wasn’t me this time… What.. is this?
✦ [Within this moment, everything goes black.]
