@opheliek blesses Body Verse with an eclectic, rapid and confident mix of witchy dub, proper drum n bass, ethereal ambiences and unexpected rhythms. The France-born, Berlin-based DJ and @refugeworldwide resident manages to fill the mix to the brim without overcrowding it. Minute spaces remain between the hits. Combinations of seemingly disparate genres just make sense, resulting in something truly special.

Ophélie is a France-born, Berlin-based DJ with a strong taste for bass-heavy music in all its forms, weird rhythms, melancholic tunes, multiple layers of sound, and some pop-infused emotional bangers. 

Her monthly Refuge Worldwide residency, Therapy Dog, and event series at Kwia, are her ways to experiment and explore the different genres she’s into, while often sharing the decks with friends and artists she admires. As part of the Open Music Lab, a Berlin-based non-profit collective offering free music and production courses for people from marginalized communities to connect and create together, she's interested in ways to support emerging artists outside the mainstream, in the hope to build a more equitable music scene.

there is a lot of emotional work behind this 2 1/2h. musically, In all my years, I’ve never dedicated myself so intensely to one thing. it was really a beautiful experience and gave me a lot of joy.
i would also like to thank all the producers, writers & the lovely solveig who gave this one track a voice. without you it would never have become like this! <3

To be honest, I have found the world to be particularly dark this last year. When I thought about a concept and vibe for this mix, I struggled to go towards a happier direction, as it felt in contradiction with how I’ve felt recently. I have naturally leaned towards deeper, maybe more melancholic and dubby sounds for this one.
I am nonetheless amazed by all the great people around me fighting day after day for a better and more just future for everyone, it gives me hope and comfort, and that’s also reflected in this mix by lots of brighter, more hopeful moments.

It was actually a very soothing and cathartic experience recording this mix, thank you so much for inviting me <3

𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐜?
I’m from a place where there weren't a lot of clubs, or wasn’t much happening musically, so a lot of my first experiences with live electronic music were with warehouses, raves, or traveling to Spain close-by to go to afters or parties.
As someone who can be very obsessive about the things I’m passionate about, I just had to know everything, and was making tons of lists about labels, artists, releases, spending hours looking for tracklists on Mixes-db (soon RIP 😢), looking for parties and clubs on RA, and also started collecting vinyls, that I was always too shy to play in front of people.

Going to London and especially Fabric and Plastic People, as well as Freerotation also had a huge impact on me, and opened me up to a whole new world of sound.

Even though this music thing was objectively what was taking the most space in my life, through which I met most of my friends and found most of my jobs, for the longest time I just couldn’t imagine djing in front of people (even my friends), or even try to get better at it. I was thinking about it a lot, but just always felt it wasn’t for me, that I wasn’t really good at it, and wouldn’t manage to get better. I really had to push myself (and still have to tbh) very hard to get out of this mindset.

Aw thanks, really appreciate that <3 with radio sometimes it’s hard to know if people are actually listening, so I’m always so happy to hear someone say that they’ve been enjoying the show!
It will be 3 years of Therapy Dog next October. I started doing shows on Refuge before that, but started Therapy Dog in October 2021. I’m not sure there was too much of a concept to be honest, but I love dogs and mental health is something I have struggled with and find important, and I’m yet to find a quicker fix to being a bit down than petting a cute dog!

I like inviting friends and artists that I like on the show, and try to adapt to their style. If I’m doing it on my own, I’ll try to go with a specific theme. This show brought me so much joy over the last few years, always so nice to get to play some b2bs with friends or dig to find new music, as well as some regular time to practice and experiment outside the club. It also taught me to be a little more confident speaking on air, which I would never have been able to do before that.

Presenting the new single by EINKI & Kino Doscun; "Saladin" blends their recordings of rare acoustic instruments like Oud, Viola da Gamba, Iranian Tar and Handpan, with deep bass and a slow, thumping groove, to create a rich and immersive sound. 

EINKI and Kino Doscun combine traditional and modern elements to evoke the spirit of the legendary emperor Salahuddin, resulting in a track that merges cultural depth with contemporary production.

NYE can be tricky, there's that 'you gotta have fun or you're not winning at life' feeling associated with it - so it's actually so satisfying when it effortlessly flows and you do have r.e.a.l. fun which i highly suspect is what happened when this NYE b2b set happened in the busiest night of the year. dadination and Ophélie went b2b for the first time ever and honestly the result is an explosion of bass-heavy, broken riddims of the highest order, with wiley edits, ukg and uk funky, vogue splashes... omg i wish i was there. you probably will wish that too, but no prob - the naivetape series can and will save you <3 ben aka dadination is someone i talk to every week, sometimes every day, as we work together via the lovely futura agency that handles my dj bookings. we like similar things and get along really well, so i was super excited when i heard this recording with his bbg Ophélie was a thing.
I like to imagine the story and the vibe behind a live recording so asked Ben to tell me a bit about it, and in his own words: "this is a recording from our party called imaginary friend [in Berlin] which i've been running with my friends (JM Moser, DJ Fart In The Club and Hardwerker) for almost two years now and that is a recording from our last NYE party - we've already had roza terenzi, ramzi, and lis dalton to name a few... normally i play solo but this time i decided it'll be cute to play with my girlfriend :) we played from 01:30 - 03:00 and the vibes were really good. "
