Filmscore for Toniko Pantoja's film "Wolf Song". This animated short needed an approach that was very different from last year's "Crayon Dragon", as Toniko decided to go for a much darker and sad theme this time.

The music played a very important role, as the film revolves around a lullaby theme, which took a recurring role in this animated short. The theme had to have a somewhat sad and eerie tone, but give some sort of comfort at the same time to reflect the storyline of the film. It was a lot of fun working on such a thematic base, as it greatly contributes to a film's character in my opinion. As usual, the Oboe was recorded by Kristin Naigus, who's live recordings greatly contributed to the haunting tone in the beginning of the film. The singing parts were recorded by voice actress Karen N. Kahler, who voiced the wolf mother in this film.

With "Beautiful Torment", I envisioned a man trapped. Not by anything physical. Trapped by his own darkness. He is unable to completely cope with his reality, so he stays locked away from the world, a prisoner to his inner demons and twisted mind. Living this way, his torment becomes like a companion to him. The thing that drives him mad, the very thing he hates becomes a comfort, for without it, he'd be more lost than he is. This piece has to do with the complexity of the human mind and how sometimes we crave the things that torment us.
