We change up the pace for Off The Record 52 with Palestinian/Egyptian DJ & producer Oldyungmayn.
With a multifaceted identity layered through both his productions and performances, influenced from 90's era rave, sharpened sound design, and a wide spectrum of music he fiinds these stylings have taken him to the decks at Amsterdam’s Garage Noord, Herrensauna and a performance at the experimental festival CTM to name a few. For this mix Oldyungmayn digs deep into more leftfield sounds and less so 4/4 club sounds, that being said this mix can find its way to being played at all hours of the night. Driving yet euphoric. We had a very brief chat with the artist about the mix and what he has coming up.

“Hey whatsup i’m Bert.. i'm a sometimes organizer/ artist in the bay area DIY radical art communities. Been a fan of dance music since the first waves of Oakland warehouse raves and have been collecting and playing records since across a wide musical spectrum. 


I made a poll a few days ago about what sort of mix I should record and 90’s early 2000’s electronica won :p..so not typical of music I dj out, more of like a snapshot of sounds I liked when I first was getting into raving along with some newer stuff that calls back to that time/has some nostalgic quality.”

His sets treat sound like raw material—skewed, stretched, flipped, and woven into something uncanny, alive, and fully his. Intellectual booty shaking 

This set was a reset. A reminder that I came into this as an artist before a dj. I let go of crowd expectations and leaned into feeling. Stuff I don’t usually get to play out.
