"To say this one’s solely concerned with pop and disco would be doing the mix an injustice actually. It’s a playful and uplifting mixture of obscure French tracks from the 70s and 80s that takes in a wide range of styles, scenes and tempos. From proper proto electro-tinged numbers through to some amazing synth-poppy vibes, it flows seamlessly from hi-nrg disco and post punk funk to smooth reggae and lover’s rock with tonnes of fun in between and beyond. A joy, basically, from start to end and right up la rue de Racket Racket. Sacha and the label know their stuff and obviously don’t take themselves too seriously either which makes for a most enjoyable listening experience. C’est magnifique.

Having first become aware of the Macadam Mambo label fairly recently through Craig from Joe’s Bakery’s mix on Test Pressing, which featured Muslim Disco Club’s sublime, Osjecam track, we’ve been delighted to discover more of the label’s output over the last few weeks and months. This mix that Sacha has generously provided, Special French, is the perfect party starter and should prove to be suitably entertaining. To keep up to date with their releases and general goings-on, the Macadam Mambo SoundCloud profile is worth keeping an eye on here. And at the end of this month, their latest releases, MME606 and MMX101 will be out in all good record shops. Check the Macadam Mambo website here as well. If New York’s Roxy nightclub emerged from the colourful blocks of Brazil, there's no doubt these tracks would be the carnival sound clash heard on hard rotation. Brooklyn percussionist Eugene Tambourine, aka The Lemko Unlimited Orchestra, has created new renditions of disco hits, giving them the rhythmic going over they didn’t know they needed. It’s the artist’s tale of NYC clubbing in the 1980’s, infused with a raucous, fiery Latin attitude. A package expertly mixed by Darshan Jesrani.

‘Pathways’ is a mashup, interpolating hooks from Fingers Inc’s ‘A Path’ in clever combinations with Ralph Macdonald’s much sampled ‘The Path.’

You’ll no doubt recognise ‘K.G.E.T.’ from the original ‘K-Jee’ funk bomb by The Nite-Liters in 1971, later covered famously by MFSB. Eugene updates the tune with disco-era style, flowing live and carrying the torch onwards from the bands back in the day.

Stripped back ‘Versions’ have been recorded of both tracks, giving you raw drums & acidic brawn. These are dj dubs focused on the dance floor, the real deal from The Lemko Unlimited Orchestra on Balearic.

I made this piece of music for Yoko Ono's PEACE is POWER exhibition in Leipzig in 2019. The music itself was not part of the show, but my concept of an acoustic water sculpture was exhibited on a big wall together with many other concepts.

Number 9 in the TFS series comes in from our good friend Norman, and is the longest mix we've featured so far (by a significant margin), clocking in at just over two hours.
Pete's another Sheffield local with a hugely diverse record collection, that I met a few years ago via a residency we shared in Loughborough. He's got a superb taste in music, and you'll as often hear him firing out blistering techno for nights such as Apogee, as you will smooth soul and disco for one of his many residencies in our city.
