If you pay attention to the UK underground, you’ll see there is never a shortage of promising young producers popping up every year and pushing the scene into new and unexpected directions. St. Lucia-born and London-raised Poté is one of these rising stars.

Making his mark on the scene by channeling the percussive energy of tropical genres like Soca or Kuduro through bass music styles, Poté creates dense and rhythmically-charged club tracks that count British radio DJs Toddla T, Plastician or B.Traits as fans. After his Enchufada debut on the Upper Cuts free download series with the heavyweight Jabulu, the time has finally come for him to release a 2-track EP on Europe’s most tropical label.

‘Voyeurism’ shows us Poté evolving his sound while still keeping true to his identity. Dense, looping and heavily-percussive are all adjectives that would fit his musical output and his new tracks are no exception. The EP opener Karma sees the young beatmaker get into a techno-leaning vibe, with pounding kick drums providing the backbone for syncopated percussions and choppy vocal loops to do their thing, resulting in a dancefloor-focused anthem that shows Poté’s more aggressive side. The title track Voyeur follows by maintaining a similar energy but still contrasting with the EP opener by putting forward its disjointed beats and breaks, creating a schizophrenic banger that will surely provide tropical-minded ravers with an interesting challenge on the dancefloor.

Besides the 2-track ‘Voyeurism’ EP, you can expect a lot more stuff from this promising UK artist on Enchufada for 2015, so stay tuned and follow Poté as he grows to become one of the most interesting producers working in the Global Club Music scene.

‘Echoes From Mamori’ was originally commissioned by my friend Adnan Yildiz who was curating a show called There Is No Audience in Montehermoso, Spain in 2009. They wanted to have a theme song running on loop in the exhibition space. I’d just been in the Amazon recording sounds for the Darwin theatre piece with Hotel Pro Forma and thought it could be fun to make something dancey with the animal sounds I’d collected. The track features frogs that sound like birds, fed into my sampler and played on a keyboard, resulting in fun arpeggios and melodies. I think it might also feature some birds I recorded in the forests around Berlin. ‘Echoes In Mamori” was only made available as a CD handed out at the exhibition so it's nice to see it finally get a proper release via Rabid Records.
