Once in a lifetime, a record label is allowed that rare opportunity to release a record that it never thought it would have had the chance to. A record from a time period that has inspired the label greatly, but a record that was never released. That chance is here. It is with great pride that Ersatz Audio is able to announce the release of the "unreleased classics" of Italy's synth-pop masters N.O.I.A. 10 songs, written between 1978 and 1982, somehow never released before now. Timeless classics that could have been released when they were written 20 years ago, now or 20 years from now, without ever sounding out of place. Here is a brief history of N.O.I.A.
N.O.I.A. began as a 5-member band in 1978. In 1980, N.O.I.A. won the first Italian rock festival, and EMI released a compilation including 2 early N.O.I.A. songs. In 1983, N.O.I.A. member Davide Piatto composed the dance classic "Dirty Talk" sung by Rossana Casale. The song is released under the name Klein &amp; MBO and it reaches the top of the charts all over the world. N.O.I.A.'s career began in 1983 as well, when they signed to Italian Records and became a studio group, now consisting of 3 members. During 1985, N.O.I.A. released 5 singles and the mini LP "The Sound of Love" which were all successful in the European dance market. Things slow down for N.O.I.A. in the 90's.
In 2000, N.O.I.A. go back into the studio to faithfully re-record exactly their earliest songs (minus the tape warble found in the original recordings). It is here that N.O.I.A. and Ersatz Audio meet, and agree to release these "unreleased classics." We here at Ersatz Audio would like to thank N.O.I.A. for the opportunity to release their latest (and yet oldest) album "UNRELEASED" -10 songs available for the first time on CD and Double 12". Ersatz Audio's 2000 compilation title and slogan is appropriate once again, "The Forgotten Sounds of Tomorrow."

N.O.I.A.'s career can be divided into two parts: during the first, the group is formed of five persons; both words and music are absolutely new, repetitive and absurd. When they are on stage they spread a kind of negative vibrations that raises the pressure in the audience so that half of it always ends fighting the other half.

In 1980 N.O.I.A. win the first Italian rock festival and EMI releases a compilation including their songs "Europe" and "Hunger in the east".

The second period in N.O.I.A.'s career begins in 1983 when they sign to "Italian Records" and become a studio group with three members only and no live activity. Their music becomes easier but always repetitive and obsessive.
Between 1983 and 1985 N.O.I.A.'s singles "Looking for love", "Stranger in a strange land", "Do you wanna dance", "Truelove", "Try and See" and the mini LP "The sound of love" are pretty successful on the European dance market.

In 1985 they sign to "Rose Rosse". Between 1985 and 1988 they make the singles "Umbaraumba" and "Summertime blues". In the same period Davide Piatto founds the "Rebels Without a Cause", a classical rock-blues group where he can finally give vent to all his guitarism. The Rebels have some success and a thick live activity.

Between 1987 and 1990 they release three albums: "Naked lunch", "Why don't you die?" and "John's comin' down". In the same period Bruno Magnani founds the "Sacred Circle", a group that combines a strictly electronic rhythm section with a high amount of guitar feedback. They make few live acts but good. Their porno-sacred performances are unforgettable.

Between 1990 to 1994 nothing interesting happens, Magnani and Piatto keep on working together in studio and making incredibly few tracks.
In 1994 their music takes a trance direction and over the electronic stuff they add more and more samples of traditional African and Asian music: the "Holy Hole" are born. The combination of trance-dub and global influences make their sound immediately recognizable.
In 2000 they come back in studio to record old N.O.I.A.'s tunes for a new cd out in 2003 for the label Ersatz Audio.
