The yelling of fruits and veggies started as a joke between my composition professor (Dr. Charles Nichols) and I. I thought the addition of the shouting fruits and veggies in different rhythms would give the piece a 'market feel' so I added it in. This didn't work exactly as I had intended and my goal is to tweak the beginning. My other long-term goal for this piece is to use the poem in it's entirety to write a full length opera!

Goblin Market for Soprano Mezzo Soprano and Orchestra

I was inspired to write this piece after watching a reality TV show- Rehab with Dr. Drew. The clients had major traumatizing events in their lives, and were in rehab. In this particular episode, the clients were doing art therapy, and throwing paint balls onto a canvas. In this piece you can hear several motifs the first motif first played by the cello represents questions, the chromatic 8th notes represent anger, the long notes followed by a short note represent the paint balls, and finally in the middle of the piece, you can hear the cello play a tango. I combined all of the motifs, and after each motif is represented, the piece goes into a very dark place, and ends with the question motif again. I hope these people were able to find strength from their time in rehab, and I hope that anyone dealing with any kind of trauma is able to find some kind of peace.

The poem takes the reader on a journey through the stages of grief, and also an uncertainty of life after death in a very profound way. In Memoriam for choir Midi Soundfile

My family has passed down the story that my mother's great aunt lived in the same apartment complex that Dunbar was a doorman for. She loved his poetry, and encouraged him to write. Whether this is true or not, I don't know, but we do actually have a signed copy of his poetry book that has been passed down through three generations.

Night I The Sun Descending In The West

I am a composer, and singer. I enjoy writing choral music, and for voice. I believe that I'm an eclectic composer. However, because of the music influences I grew up around and my love for nature, I've been known to write some decent melodic material & "play it safe," I am currently working to leave the safety of one key!
