Two UK artists - Jay Rilez (Hip-Hop) and Chris Davis (Scratch & Ghetto Funk) team up for this weeks instalment of the Infected Podcast Series.

We were able to chat with Jay and Chris and get them to answer our FAQ:

When did you start DJing?

Jay:  Dj'ing is a relatively new thing for me. i have been producing since 2008 and have always Dj'd as a bit of a hobby on the side of that but i only started taking it seriously and accepting gigs in the past 12 months

Chris:   I started djing in 2008, with some terrible belt drive turntables and a cheap mixer, trying to scratch like dj hype.

What or who were your early passions and influences?

Jay:  Hip-Hop has always been a huge passion of mine which will be obvious from my half of the podcast and my main influences have been Dj Premier, The RZA and Gramatik. But also i have been heavily influenced by Funk, Jazz and Soul which is quite easy to see if you check out my productions.

Chris:   Initially I was influenced by rave djs that scratched like hype and dj sy then for the last 5 years or so I have pretty much idolized the one and only JFB.  In 2009 I worked in a record shop in the UK called strictly beats and the owner of the shop was a huge influence on me in those days as well as my mentor.

What has been the event you have most enjoyed playing at, until now?

Chris:   My favourite DJ experience to date was competing in the UK DMC Championships in 2009. It was the first time I had performed a 6 minute turntablist set in front of a crowd and the crowd was made up of the UKs best scratch djs.

What can we expect from you in the near future?

Jay:  This year you can expect a lot more DJ gigs and also a Jazz based Hip-Hop EP which i will be realising in the next couple of months which is gonna feature a mix of Maltese, British and American Rappers and Singers.

Chris:   We are playing a mix of instrumental hip hop, ghetto funk and some glitch at Zion reggae bar this Thursday. And will be making noise at various places around the island over the summer.
