The idea for the Kiss Face vocal hook came about when we were out at Coachella and saw a guy (visibly inebriated), blowing kisses and making advances at almost every girl that passed by.  There was something tragic about it—watching advance after advance fall flat.  Yet there was also an undeniable comedy in the ridiculousness of his approach.  As much as he was outrageous, this guy was also a caricature of sorts—a micro version of something nightlife is synonymous with.  KISS FACE is an attempt to tell that story—the one where we get ready, put our best (kiss) face forward, and put ourselves out there…ridiculous, yes…hopeful, (to tell the truth), yes…and worth it, for the 'drop' (if you know what we’re saying’!).

We heard Phil Good's 'Growing Up' last week and fell in love with his vocal performance...and we just couldn't resist Phil Good's feel good vibe! Remixing his song was the most fun we've had in a while, and we hope you enjoy this summer-vibe version we put together! 

We are most excited to share a bit about the sound design in this song...of note, the guitar-type riff you hear in the intro isn't a guitar at all...but rather a percussive loop made out of the sound of tools clanging, sampled, turned into a rhythmic riff, and run through a resonator whose tuning is automated to follow the bassline. 

We also used a lot of sampled sounds in the percussion (mostly various tools, in an attempt to further the lyrical message which conveys a tone of 'rebuilding' etc....ultimately, we wanted the instrumental to reflect that "rebuilding" where possible).
