Phoenix Heart

Whether we choose to embrace or deny it, there is an animal element inside every person. A creature we can either choose to cage or choose to run wild and free. That’s what ‘Cheatara’ is about. Embracing the animal inside, letting your inhibitions go, if only for a moment. As a survivor of trauma and someone with body image issues and insecurities, writing songs like this is a way for me to express my inner desires and aspirations towards who I want to be and hope to become. ‘Cheatara’ is the name I’ve chosen for my ‘beast’, neither masculine nor feminine, but pure instinct, sexuality, and desire. I feel like we could all use a little ‘Cheatara’ in our lives sometimes and I hope this track helps others channel their inner animal inside.

This song is about finding the person/people who “match your kind of crazy”. We all have our issues when it comes to love and relationships and finding the person who gets you can be one of the biggest challenges. Personally, I (Jonathan) struggle with depression and anxiety, which is generally stigmatized, unfortunately. Match My Crazy is about my struggle with love and relationships, but hopefully, a way to help end the stigma against mental health.

Have you ever been in a relationship that you knew wasn’t going to work out, but you just keep trying to fix it? That’s what Hurricane is about. It’s about trying to save a relationship that can’t be saved. No matter what you do, the “storm” keeps building and you keep ignoring the signs, hoping that you can somehow fix it. Finally, you find yourself right in the middle of the storm and all you can do is go through it and hope for the best, like the ending of a relationship.

We dedicate this song to the memory of Chris Allen Mason (DJ C.A.). Chris was one of my (Jonathan) best friends, a fantastic DJ, and one of the reasons I am still making music today. This song is a celebration of our friendship & mutual love, music. Chris helped me during one of the darker times in my life and believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. His catchphrase, “Life may not always be the party you had hoped for, but while you’re here, you might as well dance!” is what this song is all about.

A romantic tale we've all heard or experienced before: 'Kiss Me Like the Devil' takes inspiration from my (Jonathan) past romantic experiences I've had in the past that were on shaky ground from the start. Is it too good to be true? Are they hiding something from me? Are my own insecurities and paranoia getting the best of me? Trust has never been easy for me as a result of being burned in the past, but sometimes that lack of trust can be your undoing.

Kiss Me Like the Devil

Romantic nostalgia is the inspiration behind ‘Again’. Just when you think you’re done with Love, you find out that Love isn’t done with you. ‘Again’ explores the wants and desires inside each of us. Even when we have convinced ourselves that Love is too painful or isn’t worth it, a “Spark” inside each of us is there to remind us that we’re not meant to be alone and that we will all be found in our own time.

Better Now is a very personal song about a past relationship and a past version of myself (Jonathan). I used to feel unworthy of love and that lead me to relationships and people that weren’t the healthiest. The journey to self-acceptance is not an easy one and it never really ends. It’s something we have to work on every day and all we can really hope for is to be better now than we were then.

Remember back in the 80s and 90s when the romantic comedies of the time were so formulaic and predictable, but you love(d) them anyway? Notions of love, at first sight, meeting the love of your life passing on the street, falling in love and living happily ever after, like a fairy tale. Electric Dreams love letter to somewhat simpler times of romance before we all got lost in a sea of technology and lost our ability to connect in the real world. This song is for all the New Romantics out there!

NSA is an anthem for all my fellow LGBTQIA brothers and sisters as well as anyone who has ever felt that they have to apologize for being themselves. I’m (Jonathan) guilty of being one of those people who says ‘I’m sorry’ for everything. I grew up with low self-esteem, I was the fat kid that got picked on for being big, and most people didn’t “get me” because I wasn’t a typical “boy”. It takes incredible strength to own who you are and never apologize for it. Own your truth, because you’re NSA.

King of Broken Hearts is a biographical look of my (Jonathan) romantic history and patterns. I’ve never been in a long term relationship, yet that’s all I’ve ever wanted. To find my person and have the fairytale happily ever after. Unfortunately, I kept repeating the same choices over and over. Choosing the wrong person, over-compromising myself for them, trying to be who they wanted me to be, and always ending the same. Break the cycle and become the King/Queen of your own heart. Love yourself!

‘Spectrum’ is a celebration of all the things that bind us together and set us apart from each other. We are all special and unique in our own way, but we are also alike in many ways as well. If we were all to just take a moment and really listen to one another we would realize that we are all human beings trying to navigate through life the best way we can. We are all perfectly imperfect and that is something we should celebrate within ourselves and each other.

Phoenix Heart is a very personal song for me (Jonathan). I’ve always identified with the legend of the Phoenix in that I have had to start over many times in my life, picking myself up from the proverbial “ashes” and move forward to the next chapter. It takes an incredible amount of strength and will to keep going after we’ve been knocked down in this life and we all have to have a Phoenix Heart to survive it. This song is dedicated to all of those who don’t give up and don’t quit, no matter what.

Unicorn Tribe is about embracing what makes YOU different and special. We may not always be understood or appreciated for who we are or what we offer the world, but as long as we are true to who we are that’s all that matters. We need to break down the constructs and barriers that tell us who we are supposed to be and embrace who we are. That’s what being part of the Unicorn Tribe is all about!

A truly harmonious collaboration is born with the soul’s recognition of its musical counterpart in another. 
That’s what N2BLÜ is. In 2016, Jonathan Arceneaux met Konstantin Smorodnikov and the two artists realized about ten minutes into a conversation that spanned the entire night that they both shared an equal passion for similar sounds and ideas in music. That night marked the beginning of their musical partnership.
Both Arceneaux and Smorodnikov had loved music since birth and been performing since shortly thereafter. Arceneaux’ journey led him across a broad spectrum of performance, from church choir to voice training in classical and musical theatre, to writing pop/rock songs in high school in Baton Rouge, to moving to L.A. and working with hitmakers. But ultimately, he found his place was in New Orleans, where he met his partner. Smorodnikov was born and raised in Kostroma, Russia. As a young man, he fell in love with computer music production. At 18, he moved to the United States, where he performed and absorbed club music, learning all he could about the technical side of production and sound engineering.
N2BLÜ is the synthesis and fusion of each of their unique talents. It is a partnership whose whole is greater than the sum of its parts—a genre-defying blend of pop and dance music, lyrics and beats. The two have worked feverishly on material and have been indefatigable in honing their craft. They look forward to sharing the fruits of their collaboration.
