"A Short Selection of Noises" is an experiment of sound itself. I decided that for its purposes, the experiment of sound would take place within the confines of a String Quartet

In 2014, my friend, fellow composer Rachael Smith, and I began collaborating on an artistic project, where she would write a poem and I would interpret it and set it to song. In 2015, The Longest Season is the result of that. Originally, I interpreted the poem to be about winter, and started writing the piece as such. However, influenced by two songs about death that I was listening to a lot at the time, I changed my interpretation, as well as the Soprano part of the song, to be more about the slow progression through some of life's hardest and most painful times. I encourage that everyone will find their own meaning in the text of the poem:

I exhale frost from my lungs
Trying to forget
The monsters and their icy glares
But I can’t anymore

Waking from their summer sleep they crawled.
Slowly at first,
Turning the green to gold, to dust.
Blowing dying leaves into the snowdrifts,
Unfeeling as they go.

The ground became slippery as they walked,
Freezing watery air into sparkling snow,
Coating their icy bones.
They can’t feel me anymore. (Rachael Smith, 2014)

The Longest Season

Technical Solo was written, initially, because I realized that I'm a violinist who has never written for solo violin. The work is unaccompanied, and is meant to highlight the versatility of the violin, using some uncommonly explored extended techniques, as well as some very basic non-extended techniques of the instrument that are uncommonly explored in solo violin repertoire.

Technical Solo

Tempo Miniatures is a set of seven miniatures for flute and clarinet duo in which all of the miniatures’ contents are generated via cryptograms of their individual tempo markings.

Written for the Charlotte New Music Festival.

Tempo Miniatures

Breakfast of Champions is inspired by the Kurt Vonnegut novel of the same title. The choir creates an ambient atmosphere which interlinks singing and narration, with interpretations of the text that are pulled from how I've come to understand it over the multiple times that I've read it over the course of the past few years.

DAVENPORT (2017) is a piece for percussion ensemble and performance artist in which the performers work as a cohesive unit to recreate the sounds of a shop floor packed with Davenport machines, which are used in the production of screws.
