Two years in the making and taking advantage of the latest technologies in 3D binaural audio, Other Worlds provides the listener with four immersive and hypnotic pieces of music exclusively designed for headphone listening. Each composition offers a seamless blend of electronic and acoustic instruments merging into a slow and organic pulse.

Musically inspired on Jon Hassell’s Fourth World series, this new side-project by Alejandro Mosso adds a technological twist to the tradition of imagining non-existent musical worlds. Carving into decades of experience in electronic music production and into his recent endeavours in sound installation art and advanced spatialisation technologies, Alejandro delivers a non-conventional record, yet surprisingly accessible. Music that can work as a functional and meditative background, while also offering enough complexity and detail to reward the most curious listeners.

* Binaural audio is a 3D sound format for headphones, where sound sources are spatialised simulating a 360° sphere around the listener. Sounds can not only be perceived left or right like in traditional stereo, but from above, below, front, back, and every possible angle. In order to experience the record correctly, please listen with high quality headphones (preferably over-ear), in a quiet environment and with closed eyes.

For better and worse, 2020 has been an emotional rollercoaster for most of us and so I set out to create a mix that could capture the range of emotions we've been through. The first half of the mix is all about the beautiful, lush deep house that has been a vital source of comfort and peace in an alarming time. It's like a hug from someone who understands you when you really need it, a kind of music therapy if you will. Toward the end of that initial movement you start to hear some bittersweet and darker tones mixed into the progression; the mood inevitably changes in order to take things to a darker place. The Damian Lazarus track "Holy" serves as a portal between the emotionally tender, melodic first half and the darker feelings of the second half of the mix. 

I like to think of the second half as a sort of ode to Halloween, an embrace of the darkness if you will. This part of the ride takes the energy up a notch in order to deliver some pulsing, hardened techno like a rocket sending you into the darkest parts of space. The last few tracks, especially "Vampire Nightclub," are a great reminder of the fun you can have in darkness too. It was also necessary to remind everyone that I'm "straight gangsta" after all that emotional stuff. Muahahahah Don't get it twisted!

Hope you enjoy the journey and can appreciate the dynamic nature of this set. I hope it accurately reflects the duality of life and that you might be able to see the beauty in all of it - light and darkness. Much love! <3

No stranger to DIY work ethics, Malicious Author came from a Punk rock background. Residing somewhere in-between Deep House & Techno MA is always keen to explore new sonic territories within his productions and DJ sets. From Dub-infused house cuts to Sci-Fi influenced Techno, albeit strict dancefloor ammunition or emotive wind-down tracks, Malicious Author is starting to turn heads. Having received multiple airplay through the BBC’s now infamous Introducing series, 2020 has also seen the inception of his own eclectic imprint, High Nine Recordings come to life with its first release scheduled for early 2021.
