Having previously celebrated the deep and colourful world of late ‘80s and early ‘80s Italian house via the popular Welcome To Paradise compilation series, Safe Trip has now turned its attention to the roots and formative years of trance music.

Planet Love: Early Transmissions 1991-95 showcases the roots and formative years of trance via 13 loved-up, psychedelic, colourful, melodious and surprisingly varied dancefloor experiments from Europe, Australia and the United States.

The compilation includes pioneering proto-trance and early trance tracks from the likes of Hawke (AKA influential San Francisco producer Gavin Hardkiss), Epilson 9, Spooky, Oliver Lieb, Holy Ghost Inc, Morgan Wild (an outfit whose members included early NYC techno titan Damon Wild), Mijk van Dijk, Glam and Paul van Dyk.

Packed with must-have cuts, slept-on gems and sought-after rarities, Planet Love: Early Transmissions 1991-95 maintains the loved-up, listenable vibe of Welcome to Paradise while broadening its musical horizons. It is not a definitive history of trance music’s early years, but rather a colourful, life-affirming celebration of the varied strands that came together to create one of dance music’s most popular and enduring styles.

Wind Horse Records is ecstatic to present our next major release for the year 2018 which comes from veteran DJ & Producer Adel Ghandour aka BiGz (Canada) formerly known as BiG AL in collaboration with DJ/Producer Malkov aka Spring Reason (Russia) and Amir Jashari aka Below Bangkok (Croatia).
The exciting triad joins forces and frequencies to land the 'Eastern Lights' single with remixes from the label's founder Hamza, Morocco's Kali G and Sri Lanka's Asvajit.
The EP is a representative vision of the global influence and fabric that bind the tapestry of music that's released on Wind Horse records. 'Eastern lights' is a gorgeously crafted ethereal deep dub-tech groover that could inspire visions of hypnotic space and the introspection of time. Unhurried and unabashedly laid-back, the track is characterized by a lush, enveloping pad that entrances the listener straight away. The track is complimented by simple yet effective drums & percussions that mirror the groups minimal affinities. The track can be described as an aural trip through the cosmos of space, interpreted by ably by the trio. A subtle and round bassline accompanies the ensemble and makes this a perfect weapon for the early hours and the after-hours.
On remix duties, Hamza renders his own interpretation of 'Eastern Lights' with an alluring, ethnic remix that leans toward the more mystical side of his music making capabilities. The track is more dance-floor friendly but retains its hypnotic influence and Eastern Soul. Hamza's unique individuality and sense for harmonies are easily audible and recognizable. A more than apt vocal sample is layered effortlessly over the vibe and shows itself fleetingly, adding to the lure of the remix.
Sri Lankan producer Asvajit lends his expertise to conjure a refreshing remake of the original track with an excellent remix. Staying true to the original, the remix is driving and easy going at the same time. The track has almost a dub-minimalesque touch to it interspersed by well-tuned atmospherics and transitions and complimented by Asvajit's innate ability to craft dance-floor weapons time after time.
Not to be left out Kali G also steps up with his version of the single which is stripped down, busier and is peppered with piano stabs, vocal stabs and tropical rhythms. Relentless and addictive, this tune is tailor-made for those high-octane dance floor moments. A slight departure from his more melodic works, Kali's remake of eastern lights showcases the incredible versatility and understanding of the dance floor that he brings to the table with every single track that he works on.

BiGz & Malkov Feat. Below Bangkok - Eastern Lights (Asvajit Remix)

Number eighteen on San Francisco’s Manjumasi showcases a pair of deep, groovy productions from the Miami-based Postrel brothers, m.O.N.R.O.E. + Adisyn. The title track “Acid Mating Call” is a deep, seductive tune with an absolutely hypnotic melody. Despite the soft and gentle tone, this one is irresistible on the dance floor. Next up is “Terminal Bliss,” which showcases the darker side of this duo’s sound, with a more melancholic groove punctuated by deep chords, with a mystical melody that floats off in the distance, alluring but just out of focus.

The first remix comes from UK veteran producer Martin Iveson aka Atjazz. His “Galaxy Aart Remix” of Terminal Bliss is an incredibly lush and ethereal take on the original. Galaxy describes the tone of this remix well, with a super spaced-out vibe and a wide soundfield that washes over the listener. Luscious percussion fills out the mix, with a simple but beautiful vocal hook anchoring the humanity of this mix.

Rounding out the package is a remix of Acid Mating Call from Ultrastation, the new techno collaboration between Cosmic Force and Nuno Dos Santos. Their remix puts the Acid in this Mating Call, a late-night techno stomper with swirling dubbed-out reverbs and delays layered over staccato synth stabs, and a trippy synth breakdown that breaks into pieces just before returning to a potent, powerful groove.

Scientific Observations From The Safe Trip Institute

Our latest bulletin is aimed at all colleagues of the Safe Trip Institute scattered around the globe. We invite your comments and observations on the enclosed audio artefacts: file number ST017.

Two associate fellows of the Institute, Darling and Ben Penn, brought these aural communications to our attention during a recent visit to our laboratory. Having performed analysis we offer the following observations for your consideration.

• Recording ST017-A (colloquially known as “Sierra”): This artefact, as presented by visiting fellow Darling, appears to be an audio representation of his personality. We examined in particular the rhythmic “bump”, the undulating sound of the bass notes and the rising nature of the accompanying electronic musical elements. Through typical “Phrenology” techniques we conclude that he is an outgoing person of possible extra-terrestrial origin who enjoys dancing to futuristic sounding music.

• Recording ST017-B (hereby referred to as “Trouble”): Our associate Ben Penn brought this particular musical soundscape to our attention. Our resident ethnomusicologist explains that certain structures and sound approaches can be traced back to remote, uninhabited islands in the Indonesian archipelago. Having run the recording through our patented spectrogastrometer, we believe that Penn has been communicating with non-humanoid lifeforms using a combination of futuristic mathematical formulas, shimmering electronic sounds, unearthly aural textures, heavy percussion and edible ideas.
