Momentum Mix Oktober 2022

'Nightcolours turn to Belgian talent Naethan for their 60th release and he delivers 3 tasty new originals packed full of crunchy synths, moody atmospherics and mysterious melodies. Not only that but Nightcolours have brought the amazing Jepe in for remix duties to round off the EP.

Kicking things off is title track Isolated Species, it’s an atmospheric affair built on metallic synths and driving bass that builds towards it’s mystic melodies. 

Taking on remix duties of Isolated Species is Jepe who brings a touch of Berlin class to proceedings. The rework is heavy on atmosphere and groove, twisting and turning effortlessly through the gears before the originals melodies drop into earshot. 

Next up is The Distance Between Us, this one makes full use of Naethan’s gorgeous melodies and couples it with an infectious groove that never loses it’s energy.

Closing things out is Dissonant a majestic, ethereal workout. A stunner to wrap things up.'

Belgian-Greek artist Naethan debuts on Kiosk ID with ‘Katy’—a bold, electro-acoustic two-tracker that blends highly textured dance music with glitched-out synth work and fluttering, ethereal melodies. Instead of polished shine, Naethan leans into raw, emotional immediacy, coaxing up a one-of-a-kind soundscape—nuanced, eclectic, and with powerful soul and grit.   The title track, ‘Katy’, is a mangled, melodic ballad driven by a beautifully engineered, wildly pitching lead, soulful organs, and warm, hymnal low-end. Constantly evolving through subtle microshifts and technical finesse, Katy unspools and rearranges itself in real time, culminating in an explosion of arcing synth contortions framed by a slow-burning four-to-the-floor beat.   On ‘Hybrid Catalysis’, Naethan sets a choppy break against mournful leads, squelchy bass figures, and airy pads. Cavernous, tactile drum chops and textures form a heavy, physical undercurrent, while shimmering chimes and dub chords ripple across the frequency spectrum—spacious, angelic, and gently suspended over growling, low-end throb.   After a decade releasing under another moniker, Naethan’s alter ego was meant to return him to his roots in emotionally charged dance music. I haven't recorded a mix since April (besides the livestreams in between) but today felt right to do a new one and I decided to make this one 3 hours long as I couldn't stop playing :-)

This is exactly the kind of set I would deliver if I was able  to play in front of a dancing, sweaty, enthusiastic crowd again in an intimate club with a top notch soundsystem. Putting variety in my set, building things up slowly with some melodic grooves before I dive into Melodic Techno territory, having my weird moment in the middle of the set and go go full on, all-in emotional afterwards to close the night with a positive euphoric feeling.

Time moves in cycles and Naethan is one of those rare artists who knows how to bend them.

The Belgian-Greek producer and DJ represents a musical reincarnation, a new chapter built on nearly 15 years of evolution under a previous alias. His work merges emotional depth with forward-leaning electronic design, balancing nostalgia with contemporary club energy. Versatility defines his approach, both in composition and in performance, where he moves with precision between hypnotic, narrative-driven sets and high-impact dancefloor moments.

Naethan’s catalogue includes releases on Amaeo, Kiosk ID, Sincopat, Ontourage, Nightcolours, and his own imprint Kanvas. His Amaeo release featured a collaboration with Lazarusman, while his Katy EP on Kiosk ID received remixes from Motip White, Julian Koerndl, and Aemgydala. His music has been supported by Solomun, Sasha, Mira, Argia, Toto Chiavetta, Aera, Marc Depulse, and Maxim Lany, among others.
