Release Info: 
Legendary German duo Frankey & Sandrino will be inaugurating Crosstown Rebels’ 2022 release schedule in January. The two-track Optical will act as the label’s first release of the year, signalling a major occasion for the pairing.

Both artists spoke on what the release embodies, stating: “Optical is an expression of our darker sides and desire to go deeper into people’s consciousness. Without the kick you’re left with an abstract, morphing soundscape. A sense of melancholy and discomfort, but also a sense of hope. It’s those emotions, the dark and the light, that we always try to find in our music.”

The title track opens proceedings, taking the form of a hypnotic dance cut packed full of atmospheric pads and haunting vocal tones. Gentle hats marry up with whirring synth lines, whilst a subtle bassline chugs along beside. Gridd takes on a softer edge, rounding off the release in a haze of starry-eyed warmth. Ambient notes reside next to instrumental sounds throughout, as we’re drawn into an ethereal, dream-like world.

Frankey & Sandrino, based in Essen and Berlin respectively, have been making music together for just over a decade. In that time, their rich, detailed style has graced the upper-echelons of house and techno’s worthiest institutions, garnering a legacy of releases on labels such as Innervisions, Mule Musiq, Kompakt and Diynamic. The impact of tracks such as Acamar, Mercury or Chimes has paved the way for the unstoppable rise of Frankey & Sandrino, marking the pair as a standout act within the global electronic music scene.

Damian Lazarus curates the third SOULS compilation on Crosstown Rebels’ sibling label Rebellion. Comprised of four tracks, transcending electronica, tech house and progressive house, Rebellion presents SOULS Vol.3 features the production talents of Airrica, Lorenzo De Blanck, Capoon and Bartolomeo.

Rising star Airrica opens the V/A with the playful Defect. Blending bleeps and rapid-fire claps with a warbling synthline and alien-like vocals, it’s a bouncy number that’s perfect for a peak-time dancefloor. Italian DJ and producer Lorenzo De Blanck whips up the pace with Addiction. Tight kickdrums and a trumpet-led melody wind through the track, building an instant mood-lifter. On Emma, Belgian talent Capoon offers a slow-buring, more ambient piece. Ethereal vocals glide
through the soundscape before a huge synthline swoops in and switches up the vibe. Bartolomeo completes the V/A with Isla Del Rosario, a funky track brimming with organic percussion and complimented by a Spanish vocal that dominates the track. Cinematic chords add a hypnotic feel, evolving into a cosmic, club-driven cut.

US-born Airrica cut her teeth into DJing in Tulum, finessing her skills as a selector and crafting a sound of her own from the booth. In the studio, she produces lush and loud house music, stitching rumbling basslines between hypnotic grooves. Italian DJ, producer and vinyl head Lorenzo De Blanck has made his mark on the global electronic scene with several releases on Moon Harbour, Hottrax and Saved Records, among others. Remixes for Virginia Lazzarini, Detlef and Ohm Guru feature in his back catalogue. Antwerp-based Capoon draws inspiration from emotion rather than function, making music with a palpable mood and story-telling aesthetic. Releases on Human By Default, MoBlack Records and more display his thoughtful approach. Engineer and tour manager for label-head Damian Lazarus, Italian artist Bartolomeo is a classically trained musician with a meticulous attention to detail that is evident across his electronic material. Minimal and deep house tracks feature in his discography, with appearances across Hot Creations’ Hot Waves, Crosstown Rebels, Claque Musique and more, as well as via his own imprint BAR Musica.

Hypercolour round off a busy year that has seen recent releases from the likes of Kerrier District, Gary Gritness, Roman Flugel, DMX Krew and Outboxx.  And in their 10th anniversary year, the label close 2016 with the heavyweight pairing of Mathew Jonson & Sebastian Mullaert.

Two summers ago, with no distinctive aims or deadlines, Jonson was invited to come and work with Mullaert and stayed for 5 days in the exceptionally beautiful surroundings of one of Sweden's National Parks. Inspiring a creative process far-removed from the harsh and harried pace of urban life; freedom to jam, play around and most importantly, reconnect with nature and the natural flow of ideas while deep in the forest, allowed their collective visions, directions and feelings to comfortably unwind. 
 
As Mullaert puts it "the freeing up of space and time allows an artist to rediscover him or herself. Frames can't be too rigid, static detail hinders the process to unfold in a beautiful way". Engaging mostly in ambientic-style sessions 'Pollen 4 Life' was made on a day the mood took them in the direction of the dance floor. True to form and still escaping any kind of prescribed formula, the music embodies this fluid, evolving journey and a sense of losing yourself...
 
Both long-time figureheads of electronic music, Mathew Jonson (one third of Cobblestone Jazz) and Sebastian Mullaert (one half of techno duo Minilogue) have been collaborators and an inspiration to each other for over a decade, first with releases on Jonson's label Wagon Repair and most recently as live trio Mathew Jonson vs. Minilogue, which only stopped touring last year. Originally meeting at the fabled Labyrinth festival in Japan 2005, Mullaert explains "our paths have crossed in different ways and now it's time for an EP together; the fruit of Mathew's visit to Röstånga. Pollen 4 Life".
