Deon is a Detroit native whose roots stem from the crates of family. Growing up hearing many different styles of music in the household is the inspiration behind his range of selection. Inspired by everything from jazz, funk, & soul, to more modern black dance music forms like hip-hop/r&b, house, techno, & brokenbeat. 

His career in Detroit began as resident DJ & organizer for the monthly hip-hop showcase "Bluecollar Gentleman". 
At the same time Deon started working alongside Theo Parrish & Sound Signature, 
helping organize and promote the Music Gallery party series. 

Spending years consuming & working in Detroit's underground would help inform his own more dancefloor/community oriented event, "Healin' Session" as well as the immersive music and art experience, "Black Music".

Recently, Deon was asked by the legendary Theo Parrish to help him selecting artists that he knows in order to be part of a great compilation, representing the originality and essence of the Detroit's sound.

The label has also been the long-time home of Beautiful Swimmers, the duo made up of Max D and Ari Goldman - who runs his own label World Building. They kick off the proceedings this week with a mix featuring tracks from Omar S, Wajeed, plus our Hour 2 artist and Future Times label mate Will DiMaggio. Speaking to us about the mix they said "This is a snapshot of Swimms in pure club mode, which is a very kinetic, fun place to be for a mix. It's the summer, it's sweaty. Although it seems like his name has only risen to prominence in the past few years, New York City's Fred P. (a.k.a. Black Jazz Consortium) is no newcomer. After quietly logging time and paying his dues in the New York DJ circuit, the man began turning out deep, thoughtful, jazz- and soul-infused house that eventually caught the ear of artists like Move D and DJ Jus-Ed. Most of Fred P.'s output has been released on his own Soul People Music imprint, although he's also dropped singles on labels such as Underground Quality, Strength Music, and Esperanza. We here at XLR8R have actually been pestering Fred P. to put together an exclusive mix for our podcast series for quite some time, so we're thrilled that he's finally delivered. His mix goes deeper than many of our previous offerings, but that's the idea. It's a wonderfully curated, impeccably mixed, and intrinsically soulful listen that is nonetheless well-suited for the dancefloor.
