As a mixed white/non-black POC who not only grew up immersed in the rich n vibrant black culture of Oakland/the Bay Area, but also was able to find my passion n voice through it, I am wholly indebted to it. To all the black musicians, poets, visual artists, etc. whose work helped guide me to uncovering my own identity. I would not be the person a lot of y’all know if it weren’t for them, n I know for a fact that so many of y’all reading this can relate. It’s only right that I share what I have learned/my blessings n give back to the black community with the tools I have been given BY them. At the very least, it’s my duty n the duty of those who love black culture to give back when n where possible; To show genuine love n gratitude to all of my black brothers n sisters. To use my voice as a white/non-black POC to fight against injustice whenever and wherever it occurs.
