It was an infatuation with electronic music from a young age that sparked the beginning of Nick Berry’s DJ career in the Sydney scene back in 2014. Since then, Berry has made a name for himself through his acute deviation from what is popular, playing uniquely melodic music punctuated by an eclectic mix of deep house and techno - influenced by the 90’s rave era. Fast forward to present day and Berry has shared lineups with DJ Koze, Jimi Jules, Trikk, The Drifter, Oliver Koletzki, Andhim and Gerd Janson to name a few. During the stagnant year of 2020, he maintained his divergence from the conventional when he founded The Anomaly Radio Show alongside Harry Hooper and Milly Lees. The brand is a cultivation of deep electronic music paired with finely curated graphic design to help listeners navigate through the beautiful obscurities of electronic melodies. Anomaly has released 18 radio shows from 18 fiercely talented international artists; Budakid, Invōker, David Mayer, Armonica, Murat Uncuoglu, Phunkadelica, Kris Davis, Aaaron, Stereo MC's, Super Flu and others. The mixes showcase the respective style of each DJ, while contributing to the surreality that is Anomaly. The music is complemented by the dynamic visuals of Leipzig talent - Panthera Krause. Based in Budapest, Hungarian artist Mulya brings an inventive approach to his brand of electronic composition. Throughout his varied discography, he touches on disparate themes and sounds, straddling a divide between intergalactic design and indie-inspired beats, often mixing both into one amorphous, unclassifiable sound of his own. As a favourite of Ame, Dixon, Fideles, Frankey & Sandrino, Innellea, Trikk and more, Mulya made his microcastle debut in July of 2020 with ‘Chrome Extra’. The five-track showcase was a prime example of the Hungarian’s creative attitude, ultimately leading to 2021 projects via Innervisions, TAU and his own Complaint Kulture imprint. Now, following the release of his second microcastle project 'REM', Mulya delivers some fresh selections for the second edition of our mix series. Enjoy.

▌I Did you have a mentor?
We didn't grow up in the same city and had very different mentors in the game. For Mikael it is the legendary danish DJ/Producer/label owner/party starter Kenneth Bager who is truly an icon in the Danish music business as well as abroad on particularly Ibiza. He helped out with a lot of questions and specifically with regards to producing music and arranging tracks for the dance floor. Fun fact: Kenneth was in the DJ Mag Top 100 the first time it was created back in 1993.

For Jens it was was Rene Christensen better known as Noir who was a great guide both in the how to DJing as well as giving out production tips already back in 2005.

Safe to say we are very privileged to have some very wise mentors and we pay back many times to the local artists in Denmark and sometimes even abroad with questions in our DM in Instagram.

▌II Which artist influenced you a lot?
A lot of inspiration comes from Maceo Plex from the earlier times with his kind of indie dance/disco style with immaculate baselines. Patrice Bäumel with his loopy atmospheric sound designs. 

▌III How did you prepare this mix and what was your main inspiration?
This mix was designed differently than most our dj mixes because it was designed with a starting track and then we went into melodic keys that matched throughout the set in the keys of Em, Gm, Bm. This also means that it isn't the "usual" lots of Track ID's to make it new and interesting. Because of last few years it means that so much music has not been played out so we do like to honor some of them by ensuring we don't forget these productions.

For the first time, Endrik Schroeder and The Hacker have joined forces. Their unique sounds and styles have combined seamlessly to produce a 12” that draws on their own musical histories.
