Name and the Nouns is a Memphis-based indie band that plays all your favorite soul, R&B, rock, and indie covers, as well as powerful originals. They are fronted by vocal powerhouse and genius songwriter Emily Rooker, who sounds like a cross of Lauryn Hill and Adele. Bitch can sing, y’all. Borhan Samei plays a Persian instrument called a setar, which creates a mesmerizing and soulful sound that makes a unique addition to beloved covers. Nate Smith plays lead guitar, bass, piano, banjo, trumpet, and whatever else he picks up. Hilarie Dahlhauser brings it all together with rhythm guitar and backing vocals. 
The band was born from long afternoons of jamming on porches and a shared love of classic soul music. They have played at local fundraisers for nonprofit organizations (Memphis Crisis Center, Mid-South Peace and Justice Center) and at the world-famous P&H Cafe. Individually, Emily has recorded and released two albums, and Borhan gained notoriety in the live music scene of his hometown of Shiraz, Iran. As a group, Name and the Nouns provide an experience that is perfect for alternately singing along and being hypnotized by the raw talent of people who truly love music.
