"Everywhere".. a demo I did back between 2009-2010. This was another situation when I felt like I’d been being too nice for too long… like maybe certain people (real or imagined) thought maybe I could be an easy target. It’s like Jordan Peterson said… “If you’re harmless, you’re not virtuous… you’re like a rabbit… a rabbit isn’t virtuous. It just can’t do anything except get eaten… but if you’re a monster… and you choose not to act monstrously (unless absolutely necessary) … then you’re virtuous”. So what I took away from that was… in order to be a capable hero for yourself and/or others… it is best to first be a monster… just in case you ever need to use it.

I was challenging myself to center the verses around the word “Dumb” which is what was actually being repeated in the main sample of the beat. I think it was a great concept on the producer’s part and I think it came out just the way I imagined it.

"Practice".. a demo I did back between 2011-2012. I wanted to take a risk with the flow of the verse and make it seem as if the actual verse was “skipping” and losing its rhythm… then pull it back in sync at the last minute. The content was basically a lot of tongue-twisters and shock-value material overall. When I listened through to the whole thing, it sounded like I was sad, like my heart was broken or something at the time. The energy sounded like a shallow attempt at covering it up with a thin veil of anger. It’s deep how I can hear all of that in the verse.

"Epidemic"… a demo I did back between 2011-2012. Just a lot of tough talk and wordplay basically. Also a metaphor of how my notariety would inevitably spread via word-of-mouth… kinda like an epidemic. Who would’ve thought we’d actually be living through a pandemic 10 years after I wrote that. 🤦🏽‍♂️

"Ambush"… a demo I did back between 2011-2012. Sooo… I have absolutely no idea what I was thinking at that time lolll. Sounds like I was really frustrated with the circumstances … A lot of anger in this verse… I think a lot of the frustration came from feelings like I wasn’t making enough progress in the time frame I originally planned on. I think I was really just using the this beat as a punching bag of sorts.

"The RnBville Horror”… a demo I did back around 2002 - 2004 (I honestly don’t remember the exact year.) Biggie’s - “Dreams Of Fvcking an R&B Bitvh”(1994). (That’s not how it’s really spelled). And 50’s "How to Rob" (1999)… I made this track with the idea that maybe I wasn’t the only dude who got mad (jealous) when their girl kept mentioning how much she loves this song or that song by (insert the name of any popular R&B artist/group). The “Catch ‘em! , Kill ‘em!” sound effects are inspired by the Amityville Horror movie. So yeah… I made this joint where I killed all the popular R&B artists of that time period. The ironic part is I really like at least one song from every single artist I mentioned in this joint. Most of them have a lot of hits that I love. 🤷🏾‍♂️ No disrespect to anybody who has passed on since the making of this track. RIP💯

When you realize that it was just a FRONT, but… you thought that they would have your BACK… it’s like when you go to take a step and a piece of the ground is missing. This is about feeling that… and surviving… and eventually thriving in spite of it.

"Bri-Raq” ( The FreeMix )… a demo I did back around 2011. Just lyrical strength training basically. Maybe 1 or 2 messages scattered throughout. But mostly just rapping for the sake of rapping. The whole “Chi-Raq” freestyling trend was popular at that time so I guess I just wanted to try my hand at it. I called it “Bri-Raq” because I’m Brian… and I’m originally from the South Bronx. So “Bri-Raq”. 🤷🏽‍♂️

"Notepad"… a demo I did back around 2010… I call this "Notepad" because I wrote this on the "Notepad" app of my phone...or the "Notes" app if you have an iPhone. I'm pretty sure I still had an android back when I wrote this. Of course you probably recognize the reference to the intro from "Story to Tell" (by The Notorious B.I.G.) This beat was immortalized in many a Hip-Hop cypher... most notably on the Shady 2.0 Cypher. I just felt like it was necessary to drop something real quick so I did. I wasn't really focusing on content for this one... just wanted to make sure I did my thing flow-wise and entertain the listener.

"Deadly”… a demo I did back around 2009… This was one of the many instances where I channeled my anger into my poetry/music. Just was going through a lot in my personal life and the pressure to create great work that’s equal to or better than my last.

"Respect My Grind” (Prod. by / Feat. @kayjaymaestro)… a song I did back around 2011 - 2012. The goal was to make something focused on providing a more in-depth look at my personal struggles as an aspiring artist… like what I was up against personally and professionally on a daily basis. If you noticed the light/airy instrumentation is a nice contrast to the usual darker/heavier beats I rap on. @kayjaymaestro is also singing on the track and did the recording and final mix in his own studio so much respect to him… 💼. This track was basically his whole idea. Definitely some of my best work, in my opinion.
