Tom Ruple stayed in his house during Hurricane Irma. He said a palm tree fell and blocked a road. He is thankful to a landscaping company that was able to clear the road.

Larry Ewert describes his experience at a hurricane shelter during Hurricane Irma. He and his wife evacuated to Laurel Oak Elementary School at the last minute. He said the principal helped take care of his cats. “It was a good example of human kind working together."

Bruce Kennedy wants to thank his landlord and St. Matthew's House. He was living at St. Matthew's House before moving into his new apartment before Hurricane Irma. His landlord helped him put together a bed. St. Matthew's House was there for him after Hurricane Irma hit.

Kim Francisco, a resident of Riverwood Estates, would like to thank several people after Hurricane Irma.

Joan and her husband stayed at a hurricane shelter in North Naples for three nights during Hurricane Irma. She said the only thing that she would change is that she’d get out of town a week earlier.

Joan of Naples: “It was an eye opener for me on how lucky I was health wise”

Susan Peters was a recent widow when Hurricane Irma hit Southwest Florida. She wants to thank her neighbors for packing her furniture and bringing it inside.

Susan Peters: “A lot of people in my neighborhood came to my rescue”

Betsy Moulton decided to ride out Hurricane Irma at home. She describes the overflowing canal during the storm.

Ted Beisler is the general manager of the Moorings Country Club. He would like to thank Naples Lumber for helping him after Hurricane Irma.

Ted Beisler: “They didn’t have any clue whether I would come back or not”

Connie Bonifacio would like to thank her neighbors for helping to remove a tree that was blocking the road.

Connie Bonifacio: “They each had a little axe and they chopped away the tree”

Francis Heck was out of town when Hurricane Irma struck Southwest Florida. Her family was dealing with a health issue during the storm.

Francis Heck: “It wasn’t an easy time for us”

Rick Robinson was living on the island of Saint Martin in the Caribbean when the eye of Irma came.

Betsy Thomas works at Naples Plaza Publix. She said it was wonderful to be there after Hurricane Irma.

Mrs. March, who is 85, would like to thank her neighbors and a Lee County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant for checking in on her and her 90-year-old husband. “Your neighbors are your best friends whether you know them or you don’t know them.”

Mrs. Marsh: “We definitely would not have survived without them”

Jim Meyers of Bonita Springs talks about being a part of the “blue roof nation.”
