Founded in 2018, Ohxala Records bridges the past and present. Its next release spotlights the ongoing climate crisis. Aptly titled, “Earth” welcomes a skilled Frenchman to the label. Max TenRoM claims a wide range of musical influences. Starting at home, he forged a truly unique sound. The title track samples Jason Momoa’s 2019 speech before the United Nations. His vehement call to action, fluid basslines and raw percussion fill out the mix.

Beate Uwe, ihr habt mich mit warmen Herzen aufgenommen. Dieses Set war für mich wirklich eine emotionale Reise. Nach einer durchzechten Nacht ohne Schlaf, einer Achterbahnfahrt der Gefühle, rappelte ich mich auf, durch das nass-kalte Berlin und landete bei euch...landete sprichwörtlich auf dem Teppich - in einem flauschigen Meer, in einem Strahlen von Lichtern, im Rausch von Ingwerschnaps und tanzenden Menschen.  Für die zwei Stunden meines Sets war dann auch die Müdigkeit weg, vertrieben von bouncigen und treibenden Sounds, der spontanen Trackauswahl, die mich wachhalten sollte und einem Closingtrack, der meinen tatsächlichen Zustand gut wiederspiegelte. 
Demut, Weichheit und Verbundenheit.

Leika from Freiburg takes us into the deepest corner of our consciousness with her mix. Hypnotic sounds, distorted noises and clacking elements gallop in time to organic house grooves. Music of the timeless brand. As if painted for an afterhour of the quieter kind, full of dreams and relaxation. We haven't actually had this in our programme for a while and are therefore very happy to have you with us. 

Make yourselves comfortable in your favourite spot. Close your eyes and enjoy this timeless piece of sound history.

✔️ What is your musical background?

I enjoy dancing a lot. I also played the flute (cliche, I know) and sang in a choir. I have always loved being creative, be it painting or acting or writing. Electronic music has accompanied me for a long time, but only about six years ago I really got immersed in rave culture, which opened a whole new window to joy and freedom to me. It didn't take long that I was encouraged to try to DJ myself by my partner, who already was an experienced DJ by then. He showed me the ropes and about five years ago, I took my first steps at a small private festival, and later in a club in my hometown of Freiburg, where I first helped organize parties and played at lots of afterhours - and where I still regularly host events with my Downtempo collective, MoMo Am Montag. Now I play various styles, slow to fast, not only in Freiburg, but at clubs from South to North, sometimes by myself and sometimes as part of DJ-Duo Lenkrad, together with my partner Konrad.

✔️ What makes good "afterhour"?

Somehow having raved through a night feels like you have now „earned" your afterhour experience: your body is exhausted from all that dancing, but you're still pumped, you also feel every tiny molecule, so full of joy and happiness, and it is these hours that become so magical and memorable. You either completely surrender to the sound all over again and let yourself get hypnotized, or you get involved in a deep conversation with old and new friends. You're slowly landing in reality again, with this reality having shifted, having a weird and wonderous quality. Afterwards, you happily go home and rest, your ears and heart still humming with the melodies of the night before. 

✔️ Do you have any thoughts you would like to share about your set?

As I said, I enjoy playing various styles of music - Downtempo, Deep House, Deep Tech, some Techno. For this occasion, I thought back to the most magical afterhours I had the joy of experiencing: being outside in a forest or a field, the night still lingering, its last sounds echoing. Then the sun breaks through the trees, warming your face, fresh air and wonderful people around you, where you feel safe and cozy. I hope that translates in my set: it's dreamy, and light and friendly, sometimes a tiny bit weird. You can either dance to it or chill. Or whatever you want to do at the afters ;)

Polkadot

Max Ernst's painting "Cormorants" from 1920 is an example of his early surrealist work. Ernst, a key figure in the Dada and Surrealist movements, often incorporated dream-like and fantastical elements in his art. "Cormorants" is notable for its enigmatic and abstract style, characteristic of his works during this period.

The painting features a series of dark, bird-like forms resembling cormorants, set against a backdrop that blends natural and surreal elements. Ernst's technique often involved using frottage (rubbing pencil or other medium over a textured surface) and grattage (scraping off layers of paint), which added a textured, layered quality to his work.
